Observation On Chinese People's Attitude
Hi everyone, first time poster, long tme viewer.
I am in a relationship with a chinese lady, which i love and respect her, but i have noticed that generally most chinese people are quite racists, and are dillusional over the chinese government. I mean i know western governments are not by any means perfect but at least we are able to openly ridicule and vote to make change. What i have seen from the chinese community and the whole olympics really dissapoints me. What are your view points?

I think Chinese people are racist towards blacks. That's pretty obvious. Who do you say the Chinese are racist against?
I would say that what has most alarmed me recently has been the amount of Chinese nationalists that I saw on this forum. That shows me that the US is digging its own grave by having these free trade deals with China. It may very well be too late for us, since our factories are already in China. I guess we can't do anything about it. Things will likely stay the way they are. If we're smart, we'll try to start reversing the trend, if only for the reason of levelling out our trade balance.

I have not had much contact with the Asian community throughout my life (though I had a very good friend at work and outside of work for 2 years who was Japanese), so this is something I lack the experience to speak on. However, we have a good amount of Chinese posters who can help with your question. My main clarification needed is: what type of racism have you noted from Chinese people? Towards whom and how?

I hope there are some people here who will evaluate your comments about racism in an openly ridiculing manner. But thank you very much for this intro and first post. I'll be thrilled to read your further contributions.

I would say that your post is the one that is more open to ridicule since it contains no substance and merely condescension.

Hearing about the Chinese nationalists protesting the Dalai Lama in Seattle and those drowning out Tibetan supporters in Australia really disturbed me. If China is so wonderful (which they are not), why don't these China nationalists go back?
As for racism, I suspect China has its fair share of racists, but I doubt if its much more so than any other nation. Perhaps we are confusing racism with seclusionism (yeah, a made-up word)-- China has always been very isolationist and mistrustful of foreigners. I've even heard the Chinese typically don't like foreigners to speak Mandarin, and prefer to speak another language themselves.

Maybe people are confused because they don't know the other very well. (That goes both ways.) In all the years I've been visiting mainland China, I never saw mistrust. Depending on the places there was curiousity, kindness or indifference. Sometimes trying to lure you into buying shitty goods for 88 times the price. But ripping you off is kind of universal. Shops in Rome also try this, like do cab drivers in Paris or Brussels when they think you're a tourist.
As for the language: I also heard that and yes, I had the experience once (1X), speaking Cantonese to an older taxi driver here in Hong Kong. Now that was done on purpose or ontherwise my accent was completely and utterly wrong. In general though, I consider it mostly an urban legend and never experienced such behaviour on the mainland.

I think the Chinese do have a history of being xenophobic, as is indicated by their frequent use of the word "Gweilo" which means foreign devil, if I am not wrong. I think the Chinese have good cause to be wary of foreigners , given their history of being dominated by foreign powers in the last couple hundred years. I think that the thing Chinese should realize, is that the threat now is not from "imperialistic governments" but from their own CCP. I don't think however that they are more prone to inherent racism than any other nationality.

Well, as somebody who has actually lived there, I'll trust your opinion Are you a Westerner/white person in China, or are you Chinese? Not that matters much, I'm just curious.
I have great love for the Chinese people and their contributions to history, art, and culture, but I really, really, really do not like the government. It has committed great atrocities against mankind (all governments have, really, but China to a greater and more recent degree) and continues to do so, and until such abuses of human rights stop, I really can't support China nor Chinese nationalists.

China is a developing country, that means a poor country. In average, people do not receive as high education as westerners in average, which is also partly why China does not practice western democracy. In direct voting, it is highly likely a ultra-nationalist party will win, becasue the society cannot afford to educate each of the 1.3 billion people up to very high standards. CCP is really not very nationalistic, whether you believe it or not. Communist left wing cooperated with the Prowest liberals to pass the new Labor Law that scared many foreign business away.
Discrimination against black people may exist in China. I won't lie about it. However, many of the better educated population respect people from any races. Since you do not know, there are actually some black celebrities that are popular in Chinese cities.
