Bhutto returns to bombs

Ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Ms Bhutto returned today. And over a hundred people were killed by bombs in the crowd that met her.

How stable do you think that the proposed informal power-sharing agreement between Bhutto and Musharraf will be with the sort of hate aimed at her by the Islamists? Also considering that the Supreme Court may declare Musharraf an illegal candidate for President, which would cause the West no end of problems.

They are now reporting that 125 have been silenced. I believe I read somewhere that there were rumors of an assassination attempt before she came back. If so, I would say they made good on that threat.

This may be a good opportunity for the US to suggest to the Pakistani government to conduct a joint effort against the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Most intel points to the Waziristan province on the border with Afghanistan. The Pakistanis can attack from the east and the US can attack from the west (Afghanistan) to crush these terrorist insurgents that were responsible for the assassination attempt.

If we could conduct operations of this type we could crush the terrorist leadership and find, kill or capture Osama.

we can only hope.

and far be it for me to dumb down the conversation, you dont need any help with that so ill leave you to the forum.

Now that seems like a good idea, but think about this: why hasn't that already been done?
The US and Pakistan have known for ages that Waziristan is the Taliban's HQ. And that Osama bin Laden might be there. So Musharraf tried to take them on. And utterly failed. He doesn't have the troops or the equipment.
Of course, you could say that a joint US/Pakistan operation would get around that. So why hasn't it already happened?
I think that the US just doesn't have the political will to open another military front.

That's assuming Bush wants Osama found
