American Midterm Election's influence on China

Chinese Official Media label the following congressman as blindly anti-China in any issue in any situation, from human right to trade, even against cultural exchange programs. They are: California congressman Nancy Pelosi, Thomas Lantos and Dana Rohrabacher, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown and congressman Steve Chabot, Flordia congressman Robert Wexler, New Jersey congressman Robert Andrews etc.... Many of them are important members of the Taiwan Caucus. Taiwan lobby activities were once said to be the second most powerful in Washington DC.

Quote:
American Congress has always been the most anti-China political institute in USA in the history. It passed the famous "Anti-Chinese Bill" and treated the Chinese labor workers building the American West Railways like pigs. Not until 1951 did Chinese labor workers have citizenship. Even now, racial discrimination against Chinese Americans is still a big concern. The Republicans and Democrats can always find agreements on anti-China issues in the congress. However, the anti-China bills usually can hardly pass.

Compared to American general public, American congress' animosity toward China is very remarkable. 59% of ordinary Americans see China positively, 48% of the general public see China as an ally. Only 24% of the Americans see China as economic threat, and 15% of the Americans see China as military threat. However, in the congress, only 19% think China positively, 54% think China is an economic threat, while 36% think as military threat. If Taiwan declares independence and China attacks, will America interfere?? 32% of the general public think America should interfere, while 59% think America should not. In the Congress, 52% think America should interfere, while 19% think America should not.

American animosity toward China in the congress partly has something to do with ideological cold war anxiety. For them, even the word "Communism" is sufficient enough to make them paranoid. Also, most of the congressmen have very little knowledge about China. Yet, they feel that they are China Experts. The famous anti-China senator Shumer publicly admit that a visit to China changes his views to China.
Finally, the report mentions that the American China policy is usually stable. The influence of a Democratic congress is still unclear.
