I object let Hanfu(ancient Han Chinese clothing) being national clothing

one delegate tabled a bill in the National People's Congress and tried to let Hanfun being national clothing
I strongly object let Hanfu(ancient Han Chinese clothing) being national clothing
China has 56 ethnic groups,Han is just one of them.if let Hanfu be national clothing, then means other 55 minorities must wear Hanfun to instead their own special clothing.this policy will clear minorities' culture.
some guys said Manchu Chinese threatened Han Chinese and other ethnic group wear Manchu clothing in Qing Dynasty,so why other ethnic groups people can't wear Hanfu today?I can't agree with them, because we dont living in Qing Dynasty today,so you can't do it like Manchu empersor,so you can't make a new law to let minorities wear Han's clothing.
I like Hanfu too,but i think there's no necessary to make a new law.it's personal hobby only ,if you like it,then wear it,if you don't like it,then ignore it.
I suggest that delegate pay more attention to the realistic problem in national people's congress meeting: how to clear the gulf between rich and poor;how to Preserve the ecological environment;
there are many problems in our country, face it and settle it.
stop tabling the same damn shit bill now.
some knowledge about Hanfu(Han Chinese clothing)

I always think this is personal hobby.you like it then wear it.if you don't like it,then don't wear it.don't make it to be a law and let people from different ethnic groups wear the same clothing.let China keep a multi culture country

winter I fully agree with you. Hanfu actually looks great (is there also a version for men as well, or is it just worn by women?), but as you pointed out, it bases on the established culture of the majority.

Other minorities have other traditional clothes, there is nothing wrong with that. In Austria for example every valley has its own traditional clothing, belonging all to the category of Trachten, but nonetheless. In Europe as a whole there is such a huge range of traditional clothing you hardly can get a clear overview about it, so rich of traditional clothings are we. No need to monotonize it.

The key behind those traditional clothes is the free choice. If minorities choose to wear it as well, they shall not be forced to wear their own traditional clothes, but they should not be forced to wear the hanfu on the other side.

And yes, there are probably hundreds of more important issue Chinese politicians should try to tackle than this.

yes,Hanfu looks beautiful.Hanfu is the ancient Han Chinese's clothing in history.have you ever watch the director Zhang Yimou's movie "hero"?(the actor is Jet Li,it's a story about a killer wanted to kill the empersor of Qin)they wear Hanfu in that movie.not only women wear it,but also men wear it in ancient times.in different dynasty(except the last dynasty Qing),Hanfu is a bit different.
here is a picture about male's hanfu(Children),they are study in private school(the Education Department said these private schools are illeague, that's another story,we don't talk it in this thread),

Han Chinese has about 92% in total population.so the storm of restoring ancient han culture is blowing strongly now.I don't object it.but i think everybody can't ignore minorities people's feeling, everybody can't force them do anything.make a law to let Hanfu be National clothing is against the current hamonious ethnic groups policy(Chinese are taught every ethnic groups is equal since they are kids in school,in China forum, the Admin would ban one's account and IP if he disparage other ethnic group)

I watched some Europe movie, but i have no knowledge about ancient Europe clothing.
in China,as Han people, all 55 minorities have its own traditional clothes.they wear it in important days, such as their traditional festival,wedding...the current problem is if let Hanfu be the National clothing, but not only Han people live in China,so Hanfu can't be the National clothing.
actually, ordinary Chinese just wish China be more powerful,Chinese be more rich.but seems most Chinese economist‘s speech make us feel despondent, because they are being the spokenman of some special class.fox example,Zhang Wuchang(张五常).I think Luke knows his speech.he can translate it very well.

When the say "national clothing" that is only a symbollic statement, right? There is no mandate or order to wear any "national clothing", right?

yes, like "National flag" and "National song","National clothing" is symbolize to China culture. it means remind you China when you hear the word "Hanfu".
another example, when you mention ceiba.it remind me Guang Zhou, ceiba is Guang Zhou's city tree
symbolic meaning only,no mandate or order to wear it.
but you know China is not Han Chinese's China,is 56 ethnic groups' China.this is why most minorities people object it

I would not call the traditional European clothes "ancient". Unlike the Chinese culture, Europe had some really great shismas in its history. I mean you can actually consider the time from 500 AD to 1000AD as a time when civilisation vanished from the soil of Europe. Many of the ancient traditions did not survive that time.
Instead those "dark times" formed its own tradition. Nothing represents this better than the gothic architecture.

With the age of "Renaissance" (this word actually means "recognize again") Europe found its own ancient roots again. The whole knowledge that had been forgotten was rediscovered, universities founded ... which ultimately led to the rise of Europe in the 16th century again.

This was now a bit off topic but its important to understand that in Europe we have two different traditions, if I may put it that oversimplified. One basis on the medieval times and the more daily life oriented, and the other on the ancient philosophy and wisdom that formed like nothing else our world view and intellectual achievements.

In regard to festive clothing you have on one side the rural traditions, that often have their roots in the middle age, and on the other side you have the urban festive clothing. The former can vary from valley to valley, region to region and country to country within Europe, the latter seems to be pretty much the same nowadays in most of Europe.

If you visit for example a farmer (dancing) ball in Vienna, you get to see bot sides. The rural clothing for celebrations and the suits. I guess the latter is not considered anything special by many people around the world, I mean also non European business men nowadays often wear suits, (women nowadays might as well, thats rather a new thing however) but go to a traditional ball were everyone puts on his best clothes and you will see all people either in suits, (or at extremely special occasions even in a tuxedo) or if one owns a uniform in a uniform, or at celebrations with a rural background probably also with rural festive clothing.

The traditional rural clothing is called "Tracht" at least in the alpine regions of Europe. Here you can see examples:

On other balls without a hunting or farmer background, women wear ball gowns and men suits (or tuxedos). I am not aware of any specific form of gown that would be now THE tradition. At least not where I come from. So those gowns at least for balls just have to be reaching down to the floor the rest is artistic freedom. So you get the huge variety of gowns there are available nowadays. The past traditions and historic fashions are nowadays often not applied anymore. (I know however in Spain they have those tango gowns for example.)Just imagine European women nowadays wearing baroque gowns like this That would be hillarious, wouldn't it?

Regarding gowns the most impressive might be those used exclusively for weddings. The traditional gowns are white and sophisticated.

I think Han Chinese should wear more Hanfu. Western suits are not designed for Asian people But in order to wear Hanfu, people have to do their hair styles and match their shoes. It is going to be very expensive, though.

Other minorities in China should also wear their traditional clothes. Western suits do not suit them either.

For instance: Manchurians:

Koreans:

Mongolians:

Urghurs:

Hui:

Tibetans:

Dai:

Miao:

Gaoshan:

Finally, the largest minority in China: Zhuang

I like the Baroque Gowns. European women should try to wear them in most of the formal situations at least... By the way, why would European men wear that fake white hair??
