What? The building is the bureau of a district gov in a city, officials spent more than 30 million building that "White House"! Corruption and defalcation! Now murder also happened, situation is more complicated now. You can find many news from many chinese websites.

No education? Haha, kids can get 9 years free education from elementry to middle school, the "free" means they don't need to pay for the school education but in most area they have to pay for the cost of their textbooks, although the cost of textbooks is not high, in remote area there are still a lot of poor students can't afford that and they have to drop out, you know China has so many people, the gov can't afford a total free education for every student!
So general people are very angry by official's corruption, you can see from the pics they spent funds building their office but meanwhile the schools are very poor!
So i think there must be more horrible punishment against corruption.

yes, Mao made mistakes, but that was the least corrupt period in Chinas history. only the backward economy then can not explain this. even one of the motives of the cultural revolution was to prevent the government officials from getting alienated from the people and let the people supervise the offcials. pity this ended up to be a tragedy. and hope itll never happen again.

I think that some of the current problems have something to do with the entirely wrong culture revolution by Chairman Mao, that big mistake broke down the traditonal chinese mores standards of honesty and straightness, when marketing economy started, people's greed soared with the wealth increased, and also due to lack of sound legal system and people's supervision, corruption rised badly!
This is surely the biggest problem with Capitalism everywhere. My suspicion would be simply that you were surprised with it because you were not used to it.

I would love for capitalism everywhere to clean up on this.

Shot to death!!
at last, I have an opportunity to have a difference of opinion with you which is between you and me and nothing to do with our countries.

I do not believe in capital punishment for anyone and never have. When I was young we had capital punishment in this country. I first heard of it around the age of 4 and it stopped me getting to sleep. I was afraid people might wrongly believe I had killed someone and kill me.

We haven't had capital punishment since around 1964 despite Parliament voting on it from time to time.

Now as time has gone on we have discovered that many people who were sent to jail for such activities as terrorist bombings and murders who would previously have been hung, have been found, frequently after many years, to be innocent. There are now much fewer MP's who would vote for capital punishment.

Among the general people in the country however, polls tell us that the majority of people would like to have it back. It is one time when I am glad we have representative democracy here.

So my question is, even if you believed you had the right to take someone's life because of something they had done, how can you when mistakes are made and you cannot bring them back to life?

I will leave Mao for another discussion.

Now don't be spending too long on here!! Back to the books!

Yeah, it is sad, China only spends 2-3% of their gdp for education, while most western nations spends at least 5-6%. The rampant corruption stifles economic growth and the ultimate goal of democracy within china.
