I'm sorry, I don't subscribe to Marxism. All developing countries have gotten aid at some point or the other, that does not mean that the imperialist powers have vested interests in running the country or make it fully dependent on them (what a horrible economic policy).

smallpox, I think I understand your point now. You seemed to say that if you have a fair election and the individual freedom, you will sovle all the problems. Can you tell me why would US need a civil war some 140 years ago? Wouldn't allow everyone freedom and a fair election solve it all? Why wasting 500,000 souls?

I didn't say it'd solve all problems, but it'll solve many and legitimize the Chinese government. There's nothing wrong with keeping your government accountable.
I don't know why people keep coming up with comparisons with other countries. They don't affect me at all as I am against all nationalism, even American nationalism. It's not like I have ever used the American model as, well, a model for anything. Lincoln was anything but democratic, he was border line authoritarian at best - and see what happened without elections? Remember, it's not because America did it, that I support it.
