U.S Invasion of Indonesia

Hello everybody,

I'm rather interested in the possibility of the United States carrying out a military operation which includes their de facto occupation of Indonesia as a result. Can we talk about ideas on what events may lead to this, should we say as a case that this invasion happens in the 2020s-2030s, and what may result from it in the regional (SE Asia-Asia) and global stage?

Thanks for your attention, hope we can hear some good cases.

Why do the US do that? Indonesia don't have alot of oil compared to Iraq. Indonesia is relatively cooporative to the west.

"Why would the U.S do that?" Yeah, that's basically my question. Why would the U.S invade Indonesia in the 2020s? I'm hoping I can hear several scenarios on how is this to happen.

The only way that would happen is if Indonesia government found a huge oil reserve in their territory, bigger than what Iraq has. Then they would make up some excuse that Indonesia is a terrorist country and invade it.

Why would they do that if Indonesia is open to trade?
Canada has bigger oil reserves than Iraq and the US has never and never will invade Canada.

What makes you think that they would?

I assume that Iraq is as friendly to the US as Canada.

You know in Venezuela, Hugo Chavez is also open to trade with the US. But they wanted overthrow him because he wants to give some profits of the oil money to the poor people, but failed. And they still trade with the US. Imagine what happen if Hugo decided to trade with China instead and not the US?

No, Hugo outright nationalized the oil business in Venezuala. You can't expect the military security benefits of free trade when you have anti-free trade policies.

And never said Iraq was like Canada, merely why a war would happen there and not in other places.

I would say indonesia is rich enough for us to pay attention to it now, that said a lot of things have to happen for the US to play real hardball with you. First indonesia would have to start supporting radical islam, then it would have to reinforce that with actual actions, then it would have to defy UN sanctioons for about a decade or so. . .See the pattern?
