in fact our constitution says "The National People's Congress and the local people's congresses at different levels are instituted through democratic election. They are responsible to the people and subject to their supervision", I think that is the general elections! But I should acknowledge that in many areas in China that principle is not implemented now, in large cities the people's representatives may be elected by ordinary people, but in small and remote area, there are corruption in election.
There's never been a general election. And the CCP hardly upholds the constitution. So it can say it, but unless the CCP puts the supreme court ahead of itself, and allow the latter to determine the constitutionality of policies like in any democracy, I have little reason to put any amount of trust/respect/importance on the Chinese constitution.
Third echelons are hardly justice for an actual general election.
Why is the CCP so scared of elections I ask.....
