Tank Man of Tienemen

I was just wondering with all this controversy about China's human rights violations and thier basic oppression of the people, what to the people of china think of the tank man in tiennemin square?

in america he is some what seen as a hero, the classic underdog of a lone man takeing on the "evil powers that be", not saying that china is an evil power of course.

the reason why i ask what do the chinnesse people think of the tank man is because one of my teachers should the film clip of the tank man standing up to the tanks, and i asked my teacher what happened to that guy after the seacret police took tim away? and it turns out my teacher actually visited china and asked her guide tour the same question, and the guide didn't say, but made it obvious to assume that he was probaly killed after he was taken away.

so i'll ask again, what do the people of china think about the tank man?

Hi, I was a student at that time and i am a chinese and later i study in beijing.

Did you watch the whole video? The whole video of the tank man? Did you see several times the tank man tried to stop the long long troop of tank? Did you see the huge, 40+plus tons tank dodged the student, and the tank driver spoke with him ?

In USA, what if you stop a policeman's car and the policeman in on heavy duty? What if a policeman ask you to raise you to raise you hands, and you refuse to do so?
The answer is, You would have to be shot with twice at your heart. The US police have the right to do so.....two shot. In China, police seldom have gun, and never attack a man with not weapon.

The fate if different in US and in China: A people on an bicycle(support to be citizen) persuaded the tank man and later other people seems spoke something and then draw tank man out with what? The tank man's feet was walking with them, rather than fight up.
clearly, the tank man was not caught, he was persuaded out. Because:

what if a man was forced by police in usa? Push aside, Press the head on the floor, and cuffed.

I am sorry, My english is weak to express myself.

I lived and studied in beijing for 6 years , I heard so much form local people. My university was a leader university in the tian'anmen affair.
It is no so much as western's media report.

example:See how China police man deal with robber. not one have gun, and for two hours, the finally caught the man. The police even use mop....

well, there is really no such thing as heavy duty, and if you jump in front of a police car while its driving you're likely to get ran over. and the only reason a police officer would order you to raise your hands is if they suspected you to be carrying a wepon, and not police do not shoot suspects 2 times in the heart, they mostly try not to use lethal force but shoot outs do happen sometimes.

and what do you mean never attack a man with out a weapon? according to the chinnesse red cross 2,000-3,000 people were killed

those people that came out and got him were chinesse seacret police, its not uncommon to have police dressed up as civilians to infultrate protests.

You question:How do you feel about this man who stood up against an oppresive government?

How do we feel? First, the man stook toward of tanks, he is brave. But it is not very specially. Our schoolmats stoped tanks pass the road near our institute, it is a main road to tian'anmen square. schoolmates told us. But they told us anyone got killed. Not one said anyone got killed, but i heard from a doctor ,some fast to died. The doctors from the hospital was trying to save the fast people. 10+plush before 1989, in Chinese culture revolution, citizens dare to rob guns from the army. My aunt did that. Where in the world, there people dare rob gun from army? Of course, after tian'anmen square affair, it seldom happen in China. It was first time, army confront with people, though some people may be robbers amid inside.

Now, 20 years pass, everything change.....
At that time, some officials in government corrupted, and students were alloted jobs to planned place, some are poor countryside however they like big cities.
Nowaday, some officials still corrupt, but may get jailed, and most students cannot find satisfied job, and 40% student have not jobs. And poor countryside people in poverty like Tibet(the land is cold, no easy to survive in ), and people in big cities became richer and richer.

In this background, what would we feel to the government?

Come to china, see it with your eyes, it is huge different from what you see through media's eyes

I don't think that allegation (the tank man was killed afterwards) has any solid evidence to back it up. None of the leaders of the protests has been executed due to their participations, and most have been released from the prison many years ago. I just don't think the tank man was a more severe threat to the Chinese government than any of those leaders of the protest.

he wasnt a leader, that's why it would be easier to get rid of him, and besides have you heard any thing about what happened to him afterwards? did any one even know who he was?

I don't know in the tian'anmen photo gallery, if you have seen the tanks and Army trucks were burnt. And the trucks were used to carry soldiers. It was tragedy, I saw burnt body.Other things, Do you saw the tank man carried a bag? And the tank man climbed on the tank with the bag and trying to open the hatch....It is danger, the bag would be support to be bomb (i am sorry, my memory i fade at this point if he try to open the hatch. I thought I remember he tried to open the hatch. I have the DVD of tank man sent from my USA friend.) .

My God, at this point, the tank man with a bag would be killed a thousand times in Iraq, they never let anyone get near a Army vehicle no mention tank. And the tank man with a bag would be killed a hundred times in any country where army vehicles were burnt.

But, in beijing, Why tanks dodge the man several times and people speak with hime, it is about several minutes long.... And when people went off with tank man, tank man walk rather than fight against?

If a man try to stop a tank, he at least have some percentage confidence on he could stop the tank unless he decide to suicide. Why he had such confidence, if army killed innocent people with machine gun. Any why he have confident to talk with soldier inside the tank. And why people speak to him before went off with him. And why tank man's feet walked if he want to suicide, why didn't he fight.

The tank man reports is a perfect example shows the bias of western media to decode from a video. The reports

Yes, it would be easier, but it wouldn't be necessary. I went to college in Beijing (Peking University, perhaps the leading university in the protest) a couple of years remote from Tian-an-men square event, and had the chance to converse with many of my more senior classmates who participated in the protest. Stopping the march of the army convoy towards Tian-an-men Square was quite common practice back then, and many participated in such activity. I would be very surprised if the tank man was killed, as this would imply the necessity to kill many others as well.

I have never heard anything about what happened to him afterwards, but I haven't heard anything about many others who participated in the protest either. In the west's eyes, he is the symbol of courage; in Chinese eyes, he is just one of the protesters. If you ask for my opinion, I admire those students who participated in hunger strike a lot more than the tank man. They had to endure a much longer ordeal, and some actually died for their beliefs.

yes, like i said i've seen the video, he had what looked like a shopping bag. and its stupid to think that a kid his age would take up the islamist suicide tactic against his own government.

the U.S. government is that paraniod about random civilians carrying bags. and its not uncommon for soldiers to allow curious iraqi civillians look at the tanks and trucks.

like i said before, the men who walked up to the tank man were secret police, they looked just like another protester, so they could easily persuad him to follow him.

he was most likely a disenfranchised youth who might have lost a friend or 2 in the killings, and maybe he just said to him self "enough, i'd rather die then let this oppression continue" and sense he is a nieve youth its not hard to believe when he tryed to talk to the tank driver that he might have been trying to say some thing like "give peice a chance" or some other saying like that.
