The Role of Civic Journalism in the Tibetan Struggle

Report: China facing serious image threat - UPI.com

Protesting on the eve of the Olympics...talk about PR genius. The Chinese government, on the other hand, is overplaying its hand. On top of the violence it is using to quell the protests, it is overestimating its ability to control the media exposure of the struggle. Civic journalism (videos on YouTube, etc.) is slowly eroding the regime's ability to control what information its people sees, and what information the world sees of its people. Technological and social advances are actually (let's hope) helping improve people's political lives.
Let's just hope the international community is bold enough to respond to the matter.

Chinese computers hacking pro-Tibet computers in US

Analysis: Cyberattacks on Tibet groups - UPI.com

Here's another story about cyberattacks launched against Tibet advocacy groups in the US. The attacking computers have been traced to China, although a definitive association to the Chinese government has not been established. The Chinese government recognizes how vulnerable it is to information proliferation over the internet, and so it is attempting to sabotage it, even across international borders.
