Strikes

Hey everyone

Tomorow it will be one week since the start of the largest strike in more than a decade in SA. The Public Sector went on strike last week Friday. They demand 12% pay increase, Government is offering 6.5% (It was 6%, untill the strike started, than Government offerd .5 more).

ONE SIDE: * Government is very unhappy with this strike. People in so called 'Essential Services' like docters and nurses are also striking. Police are on a go slow, and the army had to be brought in to man hospitals and the borders. Government says this strike is irresponsible, and will lead to deaths if not stopped soon. This is also a crucial time of the academic year, with all provinces writing exams, and 3 provinces already had to call of theirexams as 80% of teachers are already striking.

* Government says that a 12% increase will lead to an increase in inflation - something the government is working very hard to keep at low levels for econo, mic growth

* Government says there just isn't enough money to give such huge increases.

*Government maintains that in some sectors (like my own, social work) Government pays more than NGO's and the private sector.

SIDE TWO: * Striking is their only way to get noticed by government

* At the end of the tax persiod, it was anounced that government got 13 billion Rand more in than expected. The feeling is the money is there.

* Government oficials, like the president and ministers got HUGE pay raises this year

*If one looks at the pay for people like teachers and police officers, it is really horrible, and one can then understand the amount of corruption ijn the police etc. and the low morale amongst our teachers.

It reminds me of that well known andwell worn African saying: "When Elephants fights it is the grass that gets trampled" (the Tswana version say the ants).

The huge Union Cosatu, an Government are fighting, it is the people suffering, not getting service at the state hospitals, no ambulances showing up for emergencies, etc. With more than a million people on strike, this is a rough time!

I understand your topic and I know that her we are about to have a big argument, what is new.Believe it or not the government and Cosatu is both working on this they are two heads in one basket.
1.There are greater things to come .
2This type of national strike is not a real strike(its a method use as a medium in order to concentrate a mass of people that can be use as one discipline)
3.To kill all white people in a super sort time.
4.There are many such small practices
5.If you dont believe this .why have SA never seen this massive movement of one idea. The idea is a strike next time is gone b what.

foken moer is Afrikaans, a white language, want to try that again? I can promise you all whites know what it means, and it has nothing to do with Verwoerd (an idiot, I'd gladly sing anything that says what an idiot he was), but us a clasic Afrikaans (read white) insult. but please, keep going...

AH

PS. Oh, And if they are planning this so no one knows about this grand sceme of theirs, how is it that you happen to know about it Blue? Please enlighten us

AAAAAAAAAH!!!

Now it becomes more clear. For the other readers of this forum. The Suidlander DVD is hilarious. It is the followers of a 'prophet' called Siener van REnsburg. He 'saw' the future, the fall, of the Afrikaner (and their comming to power once more). He predicited something called Ururu - when NElson Mandela dies, all the blacks are going to take pangas and kil all the whites. They then predictedthis date, a few times now, it's pased every time.

Last year, or earlier this year, I did post it on here somewhere, they spread thousands of text messages saying Mandela is dead, and that Ururu has begun. Some ppeople (not many, but most members of strange quasi-religious ulntra nationalist groups) got in a huge fright, and fled to cewrtain pre arranged spots to fight in this war.....we are still waiting. Many even lost their jobs, because they just left and waited at these spots for weeks.

This org, Suidlanders, did nothing to help them.

Now, this DVD warns us of this comming sluaghter of the whiteman in SA, and it is ALL based on these profecies of the man, Siener van Rensburg, who died, what, 100 years ago Blue?

BlueBret, am I right then in deducting that every thing you believe, everything you have stated in your posts here, is based on the 'pproifecies' of a fortune teller?

Hi Blue and Africanhope, it seems for me there is only one side who is correct and representing true hard facts... Africanhope. BLue... where is the proof that the black people is killing the whites during the strike? Also you think it is only the black people who is striking? There are some friends of mine who are teachers (although the timing of the strike is irresonpible [sorry fo the spelling: I am Afrikaans by the way]) are also striking due bad pay.

Our President and their cabinent just announced in the news yesterday and that appeared in the newspapers this morning that they are not going to accept their pay rise in consideration for the pay rise for the public service. That is what I call responce on the strike action. The strike have gone too far now.... People need to listen and understand each other or many people are going to be hurt, like the injured sick people in hospitals and the matrics who is planning their futures.

Oh by the way, Blue, why is Suidlander DVD with all that prophecies comes into this article of a strike which is happening now?

And it is over, after almost a full month. And in my mind, the government won by a landslide:

The uniosn asked 12%, the government offerd 6%. In the end, all settled on 7%!!

Government is enforcing 'no-work-no-pay' They did say they will pay salaries for this month of not working, so all workers can pay their debts etc. but this money will then be deducted over the next 3 months.

Thank goodness, now the mess must be cleaned up, but one very strong message did come across. You can strike and know the government will buckle under the pressure... a very worrisome trend. This week, Eskom is now trying to strike and trying to follow in the footsteps of the teachers and nurses strikes. I feel we are entering the Thachter era of South Africa.
