I think Mugabe is a corrupt ruler who tries to distract people from his failed economic policies and his political dictatorship by using racial demagoguery or stirring up racial hate against whites.

Zimbabwe is a corrupt dictatorship. I don't think it's organized enough to be considered fascist.

fascist (plural fascists)
Fascist
supporter of fascism: somebody who supports or advocates a system of government characterized by dictatorship, centralized control of private enterprise, repression of all opposition, and extreme nationalism

[Early 20th century. Via Italian Fascista , from fascio ‘group, bundle’,
Fascism, 20th-century form of totalitarianism that seeks the strict regimentation of national and individual existence in accordance with nationalist and often militarist ideals; conflicting interests being adjusted by total subordination to the service of the state and unquestioning loyalty to its leader. In contrast to the left-wing totalitarianisms identified with Communism, fascism draws its ideas and form from extreme conservatism. Fascist regimes often resemble—and sometimes change into—dictatorships, military governments, or authoritarian tyrannies, but fascism itself is distinguishable from any of these as a specifically political movement and doctrine often maintained by political parties out of power.

I think that Mugabe is a dictator and running a extreme national goverment all this created over time with out him knowing it,mybe he is still stuck in 1970 figthing the enemy. But the enemy is him self. It's like having a bad habit.

Mugabe's actually a Marxist.
I don't think his regime is Fascist. But that doesn't really matter. It's brutal and oppressive, and most political ideologies can be turned to oppression.

The strange thing is, for the first ten years, Mugabe had very good moderate views. He ran the economy to sound principles. Democracy was followed in the country, and the rule of law was respected. Even his forthwhile enemy, Ian Smith mentioned a few times during the 80's how supised he was by Mugabe. He was a lot, in the beginning like Nelson Mandela after he became President.

Also, WEB, people forget that many of Mugabe's policies are against black Zimbabweans aswell, like the 'clean-up' he had the last two years. Tribalism is as much a part of his regime, as racism.

I don't think Zim's government is a clearcut case of either facism or Marxism. As far as I remember, facsim does not allow elections after power is achieved, whilst there is still (corrupt) elections in Zimbabwe. Also Mugabe can be better describes as an Afro-Socialist (may sound strange, but a recognised term for a very failed system over here). Ghana in the beginning comes to mind as followers of this system.

But the fact remains, what ever system you thinks he follows - he is an evil dictator, clinging to power long after his sell by date

Hi, folks!

Robert Mugabe is the product of Zimbabwe's gory history of brutalization, by some melanin-deficient Rhodesians, (as they were then known in the good old olden days), of the collective psyche of some melanin-endowed Rhodesians.

The dysfunctions embedded in such a severely traumatized society, for over a century, are manifested in the person of the President of that country: Mr. Robert Mugabe, whose government, predictably, is a left-wing totalitarian one, as opposed to fascism, which is right-wing totalitarian government.

Obrigado.
