George, I did not talk aboutslavery, my own country started as a trading post, for thedutch to buy food for their ships from the locals. That is what I referd to.

George and Luke, you both show a bit of a misunderstanding for the African situation. You do not understand the high unemployment (36% in my country), and the complete lack of labour laws in some countries. In countries like Nam (where I lived, and I worked with one particular factory that did this) the government suspended labour laws for a chinese clothes manufacturer. The workers worked in horrible circumstances, but could not quit, there is no other work there. And this factory also ruined the local manufactorers, as they could make their clothes cheaper because ofthey did not have to listen to labour laws, and I am not only talking about minimum wage, but the situaton in this factory was dangerous.

This is capatalism at it worst, and it is ironic it is China making use of this!

I don't know about the irony of a communist nation using capitalism, Russia and former USSR countries are also pursuing capitalism to the point of eBay stores, but receiving outside capital investment with lots of strings attached seems a normal economic progression developing countries go through until they build their own infrastructure. The US had child labor working under horrible conditions due to European capital investment dictating terms and the US certainly exploited labor in many countries during its period of economic dominance.

I think the humanitarian aspect is a discussion point obviously close to the hearts of nationalists, students and teachers, but remains conversational theory on an idealistic plane when faced with economic reality.
