Bush and the U.S.

Bush should be giving money to Africa instead of using it to fight a war that isn't even his. It is not right that Africans have to live the way they do.

Yeah, to bad they have such corrupt governments in a lot of countries, i hope the governments get better, and they improve on their African union after all of these years of suffering.

Aid alone has not solved any problems in Africa, and nor will it. And yes, defitly there are some governments in Africa who needs to work hard on corruption.

Who's seen Hotel Rwanda? It's a great movie. I've quoted it before so I'll quote it again... or at least close enough to it. "I think when most Americans see this they'll say, 'That's horrible.' Then they'll go back to eating their dinner." This is so true. I do it myself, shame on me!!

Don't assume he's done nothing because you haven't heard of him doing anything in Africa. He's done quite a bit more than any President in decades in my opinion.

"The great unacknowledged story of America in Africa didn't immediately originate with this President but it was accelerated hugely by him, increased by him, argued for by him and monitored by him. It has saved millions upon millions of lives and healed broken bodies; more than 1.5 million. Africans are on lifesaving antiretrovirals. It has put millions of the poorest of the earth--an additional 29 million African children--into schools. It has fed, clothed and watered the hurt and ill. It is not finished, and it is still not enough, but it is without any shadow of a doubt what America is supposed to do, which is why US citizens should know of it....There are no votes in helping the poor of Africa, but Bush did it anyway."

Interview with President G.W. Bush during the presidential trip to Africa
TIME Magazine, March 3, 2008 (page 38)

Not a bad article, but it still doesn't do Bush justice. I urge you to read it. The US has done a lot more for Africa than any other country has done this decade. It doesn't even mention that AFRICOM was created during his watch, which will ultimately help bring stability to the entire continent.

All anyone ever sees anymore is Iraq Iraq Iraq, because it brings people a feeling of false moral self-righteousness to bitch about it rather than do something that really does contribute to this world.

Just my 2 cents

First, Africon has nothng to do with bring stability to Africa. It is about fighting Islamitic fundamentlaism in Africa, which is thecause of but a small part of the troubles in Africa. Africon is to help America, not Africa.

Secondly, What Bush giveth with the one hand, he taketh with the other.

The Us now gives money to buy ARV's, but with the rule they MUST buy it from theAMerican firms, which sell it a LOT more expensivethan the Indian firms does for the same quality drug.

This means that less people are put on thedrugs for teh same money.

If we are going to help Africa , which is of course a noble venture, i believe we should do so in a rational way. We need to stimulate economy, build infrastructure, not just throw money at it. We are obviously not doing it right because last time I checked, Africa had not improved much.
