Violence closes court hearing in Congo
Nov. 22, 2006 at 1:57AM
A fire in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Supreme Court building interrupted a review of electoral fraud complaints Tuesday.
The blaze had apparently been deliberately set, but the arsonists had not been identified, the U.N. Integrated Regional Information Network said.
Supporters of Jean-Pierre Bemba, a former rebel leader and presidential candidate, were protesting outside the court after being denied admission to the hearing. Bemba's group has charged that the recent election was marred by widespread fraud.
"We were in the middle of the hearing when we heard shots by the police force who were unable to contain the crowd," Denis Tabiana, a politician attending the hearing, said.
This was a very short UPI report I found, Just wanted to see if it is accurate.
