And I've only bothered to read the past two pages. By the way, if American culture is so repellent to these people, why is it so popular the world over. I am not saying that we are the greatest country in the world but you can draw your own conclusions.

And, as has been said, take everything as a personal attack!

If you read the thread in full you will notice that some of us have drawn a definite distinction between the stereotypical American and REAL Americans we have met and loved.

You should hear some of the things that are said about the Scots: that we are coarse, aggressive, tight-fisted, violent, ugly, ginger-haired, sickly, stodge-eating alcoholics. And that's just the women. You have to develop a thick skin and laugh it off.

You are right that most other countries have taken on a great deal of your culture. That's something to be proud of. But you can't be the best at everything and you have to accept that some stereotypes are based in truth.

Not all Americans are obese but, as a nation, you do have an obesity problem. And, to Europeans, you don't seem to have much interest in fashion. You can normally spot an American tourist by the standard uniform of shorts, socks and sandals, a skip cap and a bum bag (fanny pack). Comfort over fashion. Nothing wrong with that, but Europeans (IMHO) just tend to be better at combining the two.
