Social Conservatives - the Republican equivalent of the Black Vote

Just like the Democrats have been taking the Blaclk vote for granted for years, the money elites of the Republican Party have been suckering social conservatives.

The Neocons don't give a rat's butt about abortion and the other moral and family-oriented issues that social conservative (such as myself) care about. All they care about is fattening their bottom lines. That's why they are pro illegal immigrant and pro free trade. They have no real patriotic attachment to this nation, and would (and in some cases, already have) sell it out in a nanosecond for a fast buck. That's why jobs are going overseas. They worship at the altar of the free market, and make all kinds of extravagant claims about the wonders it produces and procalim it to be the cure for all ills.

Social conservative are (rightly) suspicious of the supposed benefits of the kind of global unfettered, laissez-faire capitalism that Neocons promote, because it is based on the most ignoble of human emotions--greed--and in the long run it tends to be inimical to the interests and values of the majority of the American people, the middle class in particular. The virtue of capitalism is that it works better than the other systems, but there is nothing holy or sacrosanct about it. It is an unruly, amoral beast that needs to be kept within limits to assure that all of society benefits. That's not "socialism"--that's common sense.

Social Conservatives need to wake up and insist that the Neocon elites that run the Republican Party make real commitments to the moral and economic good of society as a whole, not just to their corporate bottom lines--to patriotism, to family, and to the economic well-being of all the American people. Otherwise, we need to withhold our support at the ballot box, look for new coalition possibilities (moderate "Reagan" Democrats, hispanics, african-Americans) to advance our agenda, and let the Neocons get a taste of the real socialism that is likely to occur with Libs in charge of all branches of government once again.
