I have read every book by JM Coetzee, I am a huge fan, and met him once, when he signed a copy of The Master of Petersburg.

it was a huge loss for our country when he decided to emigrate a year or two ago.

Why do you ask?

Well, it is important to remember that he is a wrtier of fiction. So nope, not everything can be read from real life in his books, but a lot of it is.

If one reads his books writern during apartheid, and his books post-apartheid, one gets avery good idea who he is.

Disgrace is not my favourite book of his, in all honesty, as I truly think he paints a more bleak picture than realy exists, but again, thati s any writers right.

But thake the basis - that a university has been devolved into a college, that has not happend in SA, little things like that.

But i understand what he is tryingto reach, and it is something I do agree with, but that has nothing to do with thisthread, but you are more than welcome to start a new thread, or pm me, if you want to continue this descussion.

really? i disagree. at the end, lurie is shown as having a rebirth stage. one where he comes to terms with reality and is given a new chance at life. of course, i don't live there so the circumstances are different. however, the rape is a pretty awful scene.

do you have dogs? i want to get watch dogs. it would be so cool to send a dog out to scare whoever you don't like. new orleans has a ton of those.

I have two very nice rats, they do scare people, but I do not think in the way you mean!!

Used to ahve dogs, but live in an apartment now, so no dogs. And I do not like the scary wanna bite everyone types anyhow. Golden retrievers and Stafodshire Bullterriers are my breed.

I m off to bed, but we will talk more about Disgrace and and Coetzee later.

Just a final note, remeber that the new tyranny, and the fact that changes of regime does not necesarilly lead to changes in peoples lives, are very important themes in Disgrace, and one of the issues I feel his picture is a bit too bleak.

Jon Voight: Why I Support Rudy Giuliani:

Quote:
America is approaching one of its most important elections in history and we must elect a leader with the strength and resolve of Rudy Giuliani. His commitment to keeping our military strong and his track record of transforming New York City make him the right man at the right time for our country.

In Hollywood, just like in Washington, a lot of people talk. For Rudy Giuliani, talk is cheap. At the end of the day, results are what really matter. Rudy transformed New York City from the crime capital of America into the nation's safest large city. Prior to Rudy, New York was the welfare capital of the country, but Rudy knew that it's better to give people a hand up than a hand out. With his leadership, the city was able to reduce welfare rolls by 640,000. He cut taxes 23 times and cut unemployment in half. In a city of 8 million people, Rudy got the job done.

But it's not just about Rudy's track record – it's about what he wants to do for our country. And to help get Rudy to the White House, I'm asking you to click here and sign up for his Drive2Five initiative.

Rudy will keep us on offense in the Terrorists' War on Us. He is committed to a policy of victory in Iraq and Afghanistan. Rudy will end illegal immigration and secure our borders. He will send Congress the largest tax cut in American history to stimulate the economy and create new jobs. And he is the only candidate who can make health care more affordable for all Americans because he knows the solution lies in the free market.

But Rudy can't do it without your help. Click here to help Rudy on his Drive2Five initiative and forward this email on to your friends and family to tell them about Rudy.

Rudy has the right strategy, the executive experience and the bold vision to win this race and lead America into the future. Will you please join me and help Rudy on his road to the White House? Click here to give Rudy the tools he needs for victory.

On To Victory!

Jon Voight

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds Mitt Romney with a slight lead in Florida’s Republican Presidential Primary. John McCain and Rudy Giuliani are close behind in what may develop into a three-man race. It’s Romney at 25%, McCain at 20%, and Giuliani at 19%. Romney has picked up seven points over the past week while McCain and Giuliani each inched up a point.

Last week, before the Michigan and South Carolina Primaries, Rasmussen Reports polling found essentially a four-way tie for the lead in Florida. However, Mike Huckabee has slipped to 13% in the current poll. A week ago, he was the top choice for 17%.

One major wild card in the race may be Fred Thompson. The former Senator from Tennessee is considering dropping out of the race after a disappointing showing in South Carolina last Saturday. Twelve percent (12%) of Florida’s Likely Republican Primary Voters still support the actor turned politician.

Even though early voting has already begun, the race remains incredibly fluid. Just 54% of likely voters say they are “certain” of how they will vote. Six percent (6%) have not yet made up their mind and 12% say there’s a good chance they could change their mind.
It ain't over
