Latest Rasmussen Report: McCain has lost 10-pt lead, tied with Huckabee in SC

Source; Rasmussen Reports

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of South Carolina’s Republican Presidential Primary shows that John McCain and Mike Huckabee are tied at 24%. In a race that has already seen four different candidates with the lead, much could still change in the coming days--7% of voters have yet to make up their mind, 10% say there’s a good chance they could change their mind, and another 24% might change their mind. Mitt Romney attracts 18% support and Fred Thompson 16%. Those figures are little changed from the previous survey. Both Romney and Thompson have led in South Carolina at some point over the past several months.
I would much rather see Huckabee win. That plays right into Giuliani's plan because Huckabee is bombing in Florida. The southern conservatives have picked Huck. It looks like Fred is done. If he can't get a good show here, his campaign will be packing it up.

The best outcome for Rudy is a Thompson upset, but Huckabee winning will do. McCain or Romney winning would be very bad for Rudy's chances in Florida.

However, at some point momentum ceases to matter. I think SC is going to be the last momentum primary. If no candidate emerges from SC with clear frontrunner status, every state after that is going to vote completely independently of the others. WHich is good for Rudy.
