A Secular Conservative?

I’M A SECULAR CONSERVATIVE

Can anyone even imagine my predicament?

I want a limited government and individual freedoms and a separation of church and state. I want the Federal Government to get out of the personal lives of all Americans. I realize that many Americans need a Nanny State to guide them to tell them what they cannot do and what they must do. The religious right has always needed more leadership since they gave up thinking for themselves and always looking to God to get them out of trouble.

The problem at this time is that the Conservative movement has been taken over by Christians and they are divided into categories of which is more Evangelical than the rest? I would love to see these Americans to firm up their moral values and quietly and honestly live by them without Big Daddy living in the White House. This search for God is not working because Christians have little interest in the U.S. Constitution. We can’t have it both ways. We are either Americans living under American laws or we have decided to live by biblical laws.

My new category is not new. I have been guided by Goldwater and Reagan agendas and have seen both men torn apart by the Religious Right.

The last thing I want to do is vote for a Democrat but the Social Conservatives leave me no other choice. Social Conservatives will not share and their demands hopefully will be defeated in 2008. My dream is to clean out our government of the influence of the religious right and knock out the corruption once and for all.

People are ridicilous these days, saying that pro-life, supporting traditional marriage, and even being conservative are Christian issues, that there aren't any Atheists or (fill in the blank) that fit such a description.

Sandy, you sounds like a Ron Paul person to be honest...but if I recall you dislike him based on one of views on a social issue. One thing that's important to remember is that Dr. Paul's personal views on issues don't play a role in what would happen in terms of the national landscape. I frequently debate with my mom, who is a staunch Democrat, about this. She tells me that since he is pro-life she'd never vote for him. I have to re-iterate that since he's for state's rights the gubernatorial elections would be become more important than the presidential elections in terms of social issues...and hopefully down the road county and city elections would replace those.

Sandy, you seriously need to vote for a Democrat, the lesser of the two evils.

By what she said, Republican is the only real choice for her. Republicans are at least saying that they want to see the federal government become smaller. Republicans are less likely to be politicians, more likely to be statesmen.

I want a candidate who will not bring social issues into the campaign. Paul did say he would turn gays marrying, abortions, death with dignity over to the states. That is not good enough! All these issues are social, not legal and I will vote for a Democrat just to unseat any Republican Congressman who is running. I will sacrifice the limited government for the individual freedoms that must remain our choices.

Your statements contradict each other. A limited government does not create a gurantee to abortion (or make it illegal), not does it create an entitlement to gay marriage nor mandate assissted suicide. By advocating federal solutions to those issues you are taking a position that in opposition to limited government and individual freedoms.

Vote democrat.

Don’t let the Republicans trick you into thinking that they are going to limit government. Sure, they might lower the taxes, but only for the rich. The Government isn’t going to cut spending.

The Democrats want to spend your money insuring forty-some million Americans without healthcare.

The Republicans want to spend your money killing foreigners.

For those that disagree, how would a Republican president slim down the government?
