Interesting article in the New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/19/us...l?ref=politics
I found one part of the article perplexing:
Quote:
A separate meeting has been organized by Robert K. Fischer of South Dakota, the owner of a furniture store who is active in Christian conservative circles and convened the Salt Lake City meeting, to continue discussion of backing a third-party candidate.
The movement is displaying signs of growing unease about such a possibility.
“Key people have decided that they will not go to that meeting,” said a leading Christian conservative who insisted on anonymity. “Dobson won’t be in it, and so forth.”
James C. Dobson is chairman of Focus on the Family.

Dobson was the one who said he and other social conservatives would be backing a third candidate, yet he's not going to the next 3rd candidate meeting.
Social conservatives will pick from:
(1) Huckabee (has the best credentials from their point of view)
(2) Thompson (compromised credentials and has a reputation for being lazy)
(3) Romney (a newly self-described social conservative, also a Mormon).
I'm guessing they will either go with Huckabee or Thompson. If Huckabee says he's for a federal ban on gay marriages, they might go for him. I wonder if Thompson will change his position and favor gay marriage. Currently, he is a federalist, like Giuliani.
