Yes, in times of war the government is necessary to restrict certain things. However, health care is not one of them. Should they tell me when I take a leak as well?

I just don't understand why you guys don't take Dave Chappelle's advice in terms of high cost of medicaid and the doctors appointments, get a fake Canadian ID card and go to Canada, you get sick, might as well hop over the border and get free health care in Canada.

Your opening post is low quality. It's dishonest how you compare someone who is trying to save people's lives with Hitler. That's so absurd as to just be stupid.

That's utterly insane. Fascism = hate Seeing the doctor = compassion You could not have it more backwards if you tried.

That would at least be a rational argument, unlike the fascist/Hitler bullshit.

I think the only 'or else' that could be implied from Edwards' statement is if you don't follow the guidelines of the national system you go and get private care.

well, if you are going to compare something, at least have it relate to health care. we are not discussing the patriot act. this is about edwards' way to impose chavez' like measures on us, where we are told how to run our lives, when to go to the doctor, seatbelts, helmets, what next?
Why not shoelaces?
Can you imagine the number of injuries arising because of untied, broken or missing shoelaces? The impact on the public purse of government healthcare is significant enough to warrant...
THE SHOELACE POLICE

I disagree if John Edwards is going to be calling my house personally saying something like, 'You have a doctor's appointment tomorrow at 9am. Please do not eat after midnight. Oh yeah, and remember....show up or else you'll get cancer. BWAHAHAHA!'

Yeah, that evil guy trying to keep people in good health. That fascist son of a bitch. Damn the Salvation Army, doctors, the Red Cross, all those evil bastards.
WEB, I'm not sure you realize what this would mean.
1) You'd be forced to go to the doctor. If that's not enough of a problem for you....
2) In order to enforce this, your medical records would have to be available to the government.
3) Making you go to a doctor is completely pointless if you refuse treatment that is recommended. Therefore, the next necessary step is for you to be forced to undergo whatever treatment the doctor recommends.
Now that is a HUGE threat to our liberties, not to mention essentially repealing Roe v. Wade, which established that we have a right to privacy, and that our bodies are sacrosanct and under OUR control.
