PEW did a rather interesting study on this that was published about six months ago. Their study revealed that most people formed their political voting attitudes when they were about 17-25, and that the popularity or lack thereof of a particular president at that time tended to form opinions that would endure for their entire voting careers. They showed graphs which showed approximately this:
If you reached 21 during the Ike years, you tended to vote Republican for the rest of your life.
If you reached 21 during the JFK years or during the anti-war movement of the sixties, you tended to vote Democratic for the rest of your life.
If you reached 21 during the Reagan years, you tende to vote Republican for the rest of your life.
Other presidents didn't quite have that level of impact, but there was some positive impact by Clinton and a very negative impact by Nixon. Ford, Carter, and Bush, Sr., didn't have a great deal of influence either way.
What they did state was that no generation has ever been quite so Democratic as the generation that is now under 25. This is apparently a negative reaction to Bush, and it has produced the most Democratic group the PEW has ever measured.
If you are counting, that means that the Ike and Reagan voters who would now be 68-75 and 40 -47 are the only groups that tend strongly to vote Republican. The anti-war era is the only group that tends to vote strongly Democratic (58-67). There is some tendency of the 28-35 year old crowd to vote Democratic, but it isn't that strong.
But, the group that is now about 17-27 is viciously Democratic, much more polarized than any group in the history of the PEW study.
What this might actually say is that this might be the last year that a Republican has a real good shot at winning since the Ike kids are beginning to get old and die off. That leaves only the Reagan kids as strong Republicans.

Unsurprising. They become disenchanted with one shitty party, and flock to another shitty party.

Those universities don't represent the majority of people that age by any stretch of the imagination.

Consider the source:
"The study released last month of 1,017 voters ages 18-29 was conducted May 29-June 19. Voters were reached by a random telephone survey, through the Internet and on cell phones. The poll did not disclose a margin of error.
Greenberg Quinlan Rosner is a polling firm generally affiliated with Democrats. Its founder, Stan Greenberg, was a pollster for Democratic President Bill Clinton."

This poll has no authenticity what so ever and should be deleted. What a hideous poll, W.E.B.

That said, I do think there is a liberal lean in the youth today. I blame it on the corruption in my party (the Republican party)--the DeLay K street stuff, the sexual stuff (Foley, etc.) and the Abramoff stuff. I'm glad Hastert is stepping down, and I hope my party can remember what it stands for, instead of pandering to corporate lobbyists.

It's not the only study of it's kind. Plenty of similar research has been conducted that offers the same results.

Where did they even obtain these so called cell phone numbers that they used? Very questionable poll at best. Something just trying to poll a leg. I wonder how much *******'s camp paid for this one.
