AQt Least ONE Candidates Son Is Doing His Part

Biden son will soon deploy to Iraq.

WASHINGTON - The son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is preparing for deployment to Iraq next year. Capt. Beau Biden, a Judge Advocate General in the Delaware National Guard and the state's attorney general, is part of the 261st Signal Brigade that has been told to prepare for duty in Iraq in 2008. They have not been given a date of deployment yet.

"I don't want him going," Delaware Sen. Joe Biden said from the campaign trail Wednesday, according to a report on Radio Iowa. "But I tell you what, I don't want my grandson or my granddaughters going back in 15 years and so how we leave makes a big difference."

Actually, there's three candidates with sons in Iraq. Duncan Hunter and John McCain in addition to Biden.

I'm surprised there's been no talk of the chance of terrorists kidnapping the senator's son.

Well first, that's tough to pull off. We've only had three or four soldiers captured in this entire war, because unlike in Vietnam, we almost never send our soldiers into a situation where they are likely to be overwhelmed.

I would say that if either Biden, Hunter, or McCain become President, we don't want their sons in Iraq, simply because if by chance they were kidnapped, the President would be in an impossible situation. The President can say "We don't negotiate with terrorists" when a Senator's son gets kidnapped. Not so with his own son.
