Innocent until proven guilty. What will $20 buy?

I don't think I've ever solicited. But I've been throwing up drunk and really have no recollection.

I agree that it's a shame that Sen. McCain's campaign has run into so much difficulty. I hope that he is able to stay in the race.

As do I. McCain really is a good guy at heart.
Plus he gets my support because he's the only Republican candidate that when questioned about torture said it shouldn't be practiced. Says something about the rest of the candidates.

Yea, him and Ron Paul think torture shouldn't be practiced ever.

It should be noted that Congressman Paul's record is mixed on this issue. On the two occasions that torture-related legislation received recorded votes in the House of Representatives, Ron Paul voted "No" in one case and did not vote in the other.

H.R. 1678: Torture Victims Relief Reauthorization Act
Approved: 418-7 on April 25, 2007; Ron Paul: No

This is non-controversial legislation. It had been approved in each session of Congress since 1998 by voice vote on account of its non-controversial nature; only in 2007 was there a recorded vote to put the House's Members on record that the House was serious about assisting victims of torture.

However, even as he voted against appropriating funds to assist torture victims, on March 20, 2007, he complained, "Only with the complicity of Congress have we become a Nation of preemptive war, secret military tribunals, torture , rejection of habeas corpus, warrantless searches, undue government secrecy, extraordinary renditions, and uncontrollable spying on the American people..." On May 22, 2007, he stated, "The Military Commissions Act permits torture , arbitrary detention of American citizens as unlawful enemy combatants at the full discretion of the President and without the right of habeas corpus, and warrantless searches by the NSA. It also gives to the President the power to imprison individuals based on secret testimony."

In short, while he has complained about torture, he actually voted against funding to help compensate victims of torture.

H.Con.Res. 168:
Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That, on the occasion of the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture , Congress pays tribute to all victims of torture in the United States and around the world who are struggling to overcome the physical scars and psychological effects of torture .

Approved: 409-0 on July 10, 2001; Ron Paul: Not Voting

Rsather139,

On the torture issue, I believe John McCain is on the mark. The U.S. is a signatory of the international Convention Against Torture. In part, that Convention declares, "No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat or war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture."

Senator McCain's position is consistent with that understanding. It is consistent with the original intent of the U.S. in signing onto the Convention. For that, he merits much praise for that position.

I think McCain's campaign is in free fall.

I don't look for him to rebound from it enough to make it through the next few months unless it's out of sheer stubbornness.
