He's consistent. But winning the debates doesn't mean that much when you consider John Kerry trashed Bush every time, and you know what happened.
But now with Bush all but out of the picture, Paul might have a chance. Unless the party's pick ISN'T Ron Paul, and if Paul should win the nomination you'll probably see another "swift boat" fiasco again.

His big problem is that he would take away all the entitlements that people have gained over the years. And he is very plain about it. He doesn't just say it...he means it.
Don't count on it. A president can't take away what Congress gives. If he wins, Paul would be more of a moderate than a radical, although what he espouses isn't all that radical. It only SEEMS like it. If ANY president strays too far from his party's wishes, they'll turn on him like the dogs they are.

I'm not so sure America is ready for an honest politician in the White House.
I must agree.

I'd like to see Paul as the GOP candidate and Biden as the Democrat, That would really be interesting.

While true that a president can't take away what congress gives, congress can't really give funding for something the president doesn't ask for. Well...not without looking really bad.

President: OK...new budget: we require 50% less money than we did last year.

Congress: No, we want you spend more.

I realize that's an oversimplification, but the principle is there.

Actually, Congress, even when the President's party is in control, tends to spend without regard for the President's budget. Most Presidential budgets are DOA, which makes me wonder why the President should be required to submit one in the first place.

Ron Paul's main power would lie with his veto pen, although even there it would be useless if he failed to compromise. At first Republicans would help uphold his vetoes, but after awhile they'd lose patience with him and join the Democrats to pass spending bills.

If Paul was smart, he'd go incrementally. Demand that spending stay flat, but that he won't veto what they decide to spend it on as long as they stay within the overall spending restriction.

Maybe then we'd actually get to see a real debate.
