The Democrats’ Second 2008 Presidential Debate

Okay, I understand Dennis Kucinich is way out there on many, many issues, and he really doesn't have a chance...and I think he knows as much. But sometimes he does say things that need to be said. During the Democrats’ second 2008 presidential debate, he did just that when the issue of health care came before the candidates

The question posed was , "As President, what would you do to deal with the nation's raising health-care costs?

While all the other candidates started in on how they would raise taxes, or simply offered pie-in-the-sky new health care plans without addressing the cost issue...

REP. KUCINICK STATED: "I reject this whole approach. And the American people should know that with half the bankruptcies in the country connected to people not being able to pay their doctor bills or hospital bills, premiums, co-pays and deductibles going so far through the roof -- 46 million Americans, no health care; another 50 million under insured, there is only one way to get health care coverage for all Americans, and that is to have a universal single-payer, not-for- profit health care system, Medicare for All. Wolf, I've written the bill -- it's H.R. 676 -- with John Conyers, supported by 14,000 physicians.

"And you know what? What Senator Clinton, Senator Edwards, Senator Obama are talking about, they're talking about letting the insurance companies stay in charge. They're talking about continuing a for-profit health care system. (Applause.) And I think we need a president who's ready to challenge that. And I'm ready to challenge the insurance companies."

Let's face it, our health as a people, as a nation, is far too valuable to be simply sold on the open market at 50% porfit. We need health insurance to be not-for-profit. There are, of course, other aspects to this complex peoblem, but if your are confused and lost on how we can lower health care costs in this country, this is the right direction.

OK... I don't care so much about the poll. I just want to know who were the ones that signed up for... I'm an idiot so I don't know.

No profits means no incentives to provide health care.

In other words, it means no health care.
