2008 - So You Think You Can Be President

Personally I think this race is going to be entertaining ... full of blame, intrigue, ideas, and a new look at what Democracy is truly about. I like the quote by Chris Rock -

"You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon.' Need I say more?”

- nothing fits these days but that could be an exciting opportunity to take this Administration by storm. I think it's fair to say our current political agenda is at best, a disaster.

One issue I hope takes a backseat in this Presidential Race is the focus on religion. We do still live in a country that stands for the freedom of religion. Why do we coninue to blur those lines? Religion hasn't made any leader less likely to go to war or more likely to change the poverty and violence going on every day in this country. It's time for someone, anyone to run that can win the vote by actually making a pact to make a difference in our own nation (for the better, including lessening our sad deficit) and doing something to rescue our foreign policy from further failure.

Should get interesting ...

lol Ron Paul. I know Empty Pepsi is gonna kill me, but Ron Paul got his ass kicked so badly at the last GOP debate. It was such an inept show on his part.

In any case, what do you like about Ron Paul? I know practically nothing about him other than his debate fiasco a week ago.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

While a lot of people may have given points to Paul on substantive grounds, he completely lost on perception grounds.

When you say something as provocative as what he said, you'd better make sure it's not just 100% true in itself, but the whole truth. Paul did not do that. He said something that most Americans find offensive, and which is true in isolation but doesn't even begin to give the complex picture of what actually motivated 9/11.

Saying that Pearl Harbor was caused by our foreign policy(a claim Paul has also made) is also true in itself, but doesn't do justice to what actually happened.

Ron Paul did not lose. He was just outnumbered. He had such courage that he actually came out and said what he believed. He said that 9/11 was our fault because we were over there, not because they hate us for our freedom. People just say he lost because Giuliani came out and said that he was outraged and that Ron Paul wasn't playing by the rules of the ultra-conservative republicans. Then everybody applauded at Giuliani and said that Paul lost. I say he won because he got his message out and separated himself from the other republicans. I'd vote for Ron Paul over any republican and possibly some democrats. But other than him, I'd say Barack Obama.

Saying our foreign policy caused 9/11 is just as accurate as saying the invention of the airplane caused 9/11.
