Here it is: the long awaited Obama-Wright Republican attack ad
The Democrats need to start pulling out all the bigots from the Republican Party (Hagee, Billy Graham, Falwell, Robertson) and start putting ads out about them too.

So we're looking at a repeat of 2004. The Republican hatchet-men do the dirty work for the GOP, while the nominee and the central party apparatus distance themselves from the attack:
Update: From Ms. Bumiller, who is covering Mr. McCain’s campaign events through rural Kentucky: “There’s no place for that kind of campaigning, the American people don’t want it, period,'’ Mr. McCain told reporters on his bus this morning. He said he had not seen the ad and hoped that he wouldn’t, but that he had been given a description of it.
“I understand that it moves numbers, negative ads do all that, but that doesn’t mean it’s right,'’ Mr. McCain said.
Mike Duncan, the chairman of the Republican National Committee who was traveling with Mr. McCain, said that he had left a message with Linda Daves, the chairwoman of the North Carolina Republican party, also asking that the ad not be used.

Also from the McCain campaign:
Quote:
Mr. McCain’s campaign released a letter he wrote today to Ms. Daves:
From the beginning of this election, I have been committed to running a respectful campaign based upon an honest debate about the great issues confronting America today. I expect all state parties to do so as well. The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats. In the strongest terms, I implore you to not run this advertisement.
This ad does not live up to the very high standards we should hold ourselves to in this campaign. We need to run a campaign that is worthy of the people we seek to serve. There is no doubt that we will draw sharp contrasts with the Democrats on fundamental issues critical to the future course of our country. But we need not engage in political tactics that only seek to divide the American people.
Once again, it is imperative that you withdraw this offensive advertisement.
If the Democrats have any sense, they will do the exact same thing to McCain, linking him to the radical preachers of the GOP and then Obama can say oh man, that was such a horrible attack.

That's an idiotic ad. It's a lie on both issues: crime and 9/11. I like to see murderers get killed, and I even have looked into medievel punishments for my amusement on how they should be killed. However, the death penalty in Illinois had a very high overturn rate, and I agreed with them that it should be stopped. So that has nothing to do with sympathizing with gangs, as the ad probably lied about.
Secondly the attempt to blend capital punishment and 9/11 was ham fisted. Ads that attack McCain for being a "Manchurian Candidate" make more sense that that idiotic ad you showed.

I'm with you, it is a horrible ad. They had actually just talked about it on Hardball and that is how I found out about it. I guess some conservative strategist is running it in NC and plans to use it in more states.

Just when I thought it was safe to vote Republican. I guess I'll have to start looking into 3rd parties again.

the war on gangs cannot even be compared to the war on terror. First of all gangs in the united states are not a threat to the united states...terrorist are a threat to the united states...very very poor analogy made by the McCain campaign, i'm assuming its McCain.
and for the Revered Wright one, hahaha once again they take just a small snippet of what the pastor said. and i think we all can agree that what reverend wright had said does have a lot of truth in it......
wow.....if this is what the republican party represents i cannot support McCain for president, he will make a fool of this country just like that monkey we have in office right now
ok, well, the Rev. Wright IS kind of a sketchy character. not really sketchy so much as hateful. i don't think the GOP went out and found him, i think Obama brought him into the campaign, so he's fair game as far as i'm concerned. either Obama didn't really know this man well, and was just trying to seem religious. or he knew him, knew what he was about, and brought him along anyway. either way, i blame Obama's people for the Rev. Wright mess, not the GOP. they're doing no different than the democrats would if this guy was McCain's pastor.
as for the death penalty ad, i think it's pretty pointless. whether they're for or against the death penalty, this ad isn't likely to change anyone's mind. we've all heard the stories like that before. hearing one more round of them, and trying to tie the innocent victims to Obama, is pretty trashy.
how trashy? trashy like the ACLU-hate crime ad from the 2000 campaign.
(( BARF ))
