Wink Obama vs McCain: a gentleman's fight

A prominent liberal radio jock called McCain a warmonger. McCain said that was untrue and compelled Obama to denounce the remark. Obama did disagree with the remark, but did not denounce it. Still, I was amazed that Obama would say he disagrees with the remark.

Obama knocks McCain, Clinton on Iraq - First Read - msnbc.com
Quote:
McCain on the Warmonger Remark
From NBC/NJ's Adam Aigner-Treworgy and NBC's Mark Murray

McCain at his media avail today: "It's a free country, and we have freedom of speech in America, and Mr. [Ed] Shultz is entitled to his views. I would hope that in keeping with his commitment that Sen. Obama would rapidly condemn, Sen. Obama would condemn such language since it was part of his campaign. But that kind of thing, I don't think is necessary at all in this campaign. I made it very clear how I feel about war and my experiences with it."

As mentioned earlier, the Obama campaign didn't condemn Schultz's remark, but issued this statement: "John McCain is not a warmonger and should not be described as such. He's a supporter of a war that Senator Obama believes should have never been authorized and never been waged."

And contrary what McCain said, Shultz's remark wasn't technically part of Obama's campaign; it came at a fundraiser for the North Dakota Democratic Party, which Obama attended.

This is unreal. McCain debates more civilly with Obama than Clinton does.

McCain: Obama 'Absolutely' Qualified to Be President - The Talk
Quote:
McCain: Obama 'Absolutely' Qualified to Be President
By Zachary A. Goldfarb

Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, said Sunday that the leader for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, would be "absolutely" qualified to be president, should the voters elect him. But, he said, "I believe that my talent and my background and my experience, which has led to my judgment, ... qualifies me more."

Even though I will give McCain credit for saying that Obama is qualified to be president when Clinton may say otherwise, it sounds like a political stunt to try and gain favor as being more mature than Clinton.

I am sure if McCain and Obama run against each other McCain will use the same critisisms of Obama by calling him inexperienced and the same unqualifying critism as Clinton. McCain he wouldn't call him unqualified, but he would imply it with his comments.

I don't think McCain will even come close to what Clinton will do to him. The one thing i do like about Obama and McCain is they seem to be committed to the no mudslinging campaign.I mean come on, we all know, there is nothing to dirty or low for a Clinton to do to win. They like the Win at any cost strategy.

You're definitely not drawing upon the facts of American politics when you make statements like the above.

I can give you some good examples of dirty politics:

  • People in favor of Bush said McCain was brainwashed by the Vietnamese, that his adopted daughter was the daughter of an extra-marital affair, they said nasty things about his wife too

  • People against Kerry said that he had shot himself to get his medals in Vietnam

  • Mitt Romney has interchangeably used Osama and Obama

  • Bill Clinton tried to marginalize Obama as the black candidate

  • Hillary has repeatedly lied about Obama and lied in her own favor throughout the campaign

  • In 2006, racial fears by whites were stoked by people who opposed a biracial politician

  • Early in the 19th century there was dirty politics too:

Swiftboating: A New Low in Dirty Politics | AlterNet
    Quote:
Perhaps one of the most venomous elections was in 1828, when John Quincy Adams was running for President against General Andrew Jackson. According the same BBC news article, Adams was "nicknamed 'The Pimp' by the campaign of his opponent…based on a rumour that he had once coerced a young woman into an affair with a Russian nobleman when he had been American ambassador to Russia."

In response, Adams' supporters came out with a pamphlet which read: "General Jackson's mother was a common prostitute brought to this country by British solders! She afterwards married a mulatto man with whom she had several children of which number General Jackson is one!!"

You rushed towards a conclusion without examining the facts.
