Thumbs up Obama ad in Indiana, McCain general election ad

There ya go, Obama. Get off the fucking race issue that people keep trying to pigeon hole you in.

The most recent Howey-Gauge poll found, taken in mid-February, showed Obama leading by 15 points in Indiana.

Here's McCain's first general election ad:

He just used Clinton's "Ready on Day One" slogan. Pretty sad how he just wrenched her slogan right out of her hands and put it beneath his own name. Nice of Clinton to define the election in dimensions that she loses on.

What McCain wanted to accomplish here is to just put out something positive, as a contrast to all the negativity Democrats are throwing at each other, and at McCain himself.

If Obama's first ad directed at the general election is negative, it will make for a nice contrast. The supposed uniter swinging first.

Just saw the ad, it was all about protectionism. Good for winning Indiana, bad for winning a general election.

Obama is trying to do more than be the first black President. He's also trying to be the first President who wins promising to cut back on trade and raise taxes.

I think the latter two are going to be more of an obstacle to him winning than his race.

Again, I ask you to honestly describe Obama's tax policies. Obama is not trying to "raise taxes". Obama is trying to raise taxes on the rich. Thank you.

WEB, I know you've lived long enough to know that Democrats always promise to raise taxes on the rich and lower them on the middle class. then when taking office they just raise taxes on everyone.

The last Democrat to cut taxes was Kennedy. Yet they've all promised some kind of middle class tax relief and then either forgot about it or raised taxes.

And really, this is as it should be. High tax rates on a narrow base are poor social policy and poor economic policy. You can only get decent revenue from a broad-based tax.

But let's say that we take Obama at face value. He's only going to raise taxes on the rich. Why would anyone but a greedy person support a candidate who promised to give you more stuff on someone else's dime?

What taxes did Bill Clinton raise on anyone except for the rich?

I thought Obama's mssage was a great deal more importantto the ordinary workers than McCain's, who trotted out the same old stuff that others before him have trotted out, eg. "We are Americans' etc. but had little other content. Obama on the other hand gave a positive and thought provoking message.

The largest middle class tax increase was on seniors making over $40,000/yr. The 1993 law made 85% of their SS checks taxable income.

It created 36 percent and 39.6 income tax rates for individuals. (The 36% rate kicked in around $75,000. That is not rich)
It created a 35 percent income tax rate for corporations.
The cap on Medicare taxes was repealed. (also starts affecting people in the upper middle class, plain old middle class in places like NY and CA).
Transportation fuels taxes were hiked by 4.3 cents per gallon. (Affects rich and poor alike)
The taxable portion of Social Security benefits was raised. (For those making over $40,000. Definitely not rich).
The phase-out of the personal exemption and limit on itemized deductions were permanently extended.

Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
