Huckabee Mathematically Eliminated

I just saw this on CNN. They went through the whole thing on their board giving Huckabee all of the remaining states and he would have to win 120% of the remaining delegates from each state to beat McCain and get the win.

I'll try and find a CNN link about this as soon as I can.

I know this isn't much of a surprise, or shouldn't be, but it begs the question; When will he announce that he's out and that McCain is officially the Republican candidate?

Perhaps he is hoping that god, whose undying word he hopes to replace the constitution with, will miracle him into the candidacy.

He can, however, deny those 774 remaining delegates to McCain, putting himself in an extremely powerful position at the RNC to influence both VP choices and platform planks.

But McCain only needs around 40% of the remaining to put him over the top and win before they even go to the convention. This one will be decided soon and long before there would be any debate at the convention.

I had pretty much assumed Huckabee's candidacy as a mathematical impossibility not a week after Super Tuesday, but this confirms it.

Very funny.

Actually, if Huckabee denies McCain the rest of the delegates than Huckabee will have taken the delegate lead, and then it'd go to the convention. Romney's social conservative votes would go to Huckabee (his economic conservative votes would jump off a cliff), Rudy Giuliani's biscuit of defense votes would go to McCain, Ron Paul's delegates? They'd probably jump off a cliff.

Regardless, McCain has won. I'm pretty sure that they're already setting up a general election campaign. Huckabee isn't going to win all of the delegates left, he'll win a handful but not enough to go to the national convention. However, if Huckabee hadn't been in this race Romney would have been the frontrunner.
