I disagree with the OP in that the right has given Bush plenty of hell (Pat Buchanan and Michael Savage I would say are two good examples of this).

Having said that, McCain seems like the smartest choice for Republicans. If it came down to McCain/Hillary, I'd go with McCain in a heartbeat.

No doubt, there is no question between Hillary and Mccain. The thing I do have a question about, looking ahead a bit, IF Mccain were to get it, I hardly see how he can pull off two terms. He will be 72 when he would take office. That puts him at 76 at the next election. How could he run again, if in fact he got a second term, he'd be 80 years old? I think Reagan had two years difference or so, but man, who knows at that age what could happen. Ronnie got Alzheimer's later, that could easily happen before then, not to mention other things.

One or two terms doesn't bother me. Just as long as we have a quality person in office for the term(s).I don't see why it has to be some sort of standard for someone to have two terms.

conservative vote?!!

McCain and Kennedy came up with the amnesty bill. In what way is there any genuinely viable conservative candidate? The present administration would have made B. Goldwater turnover in his grave. Incidentally, higher learning is not the sole province of an atheistic left - consider A. Einstein

mc cain is an honorable man, but i suspect his past has shaped his present view ~ how can it have not? anyway i think he has lost touch with what americans think they are. how else can i explain his statement in vietnam a few years back where he stated the wrong side won??

since when is the side that wants to remove foreign interference the wrong side?? so if he was a brit back in 1770's would he have also said the wrong side won? i question mc cain's abilty to put the shoe on the other foot ;
I couldn't agree with you more, well said!

I say it over on over on this board and I stand by it. THe big difference between Bush and McCain when it comes to conservatives is that McCain has built a career out of spiting us and sticking a thumb in our eye. Screw him.

MCain for pres!

Hot Duck after reading your thoughts on why we should vote for MCain I am more convince now not to vote for him. The last thing I want is to have a President who thinks along the same lines of the Bush administration.
I respect the man but do not believe he is the right choice for the republican party to move this country forward.

I agree, he is not the right choice for the Republican party, but basically you have no other choice. Its likely going to be either Hllary/Obama vs Mccain. If you actually feel comfortable voting for HIllary/Obama over Mccain, then I guess go ahead but just prepare yourself for what you just did. You just tossed all conservative values out the window, in hope that the dems will fail after four years and we can get a real candidate in there.
