Obama Appeals to Jewish Voters, Voices Support for Israeli Positions

You Decide 08! » Obama Appeals to Jewish Voters, Voices Support for Israeli Positions

OK, someone explain this to me:

On one hand, he supports Israel's right to exist and protect itself.

OTOH, he wants an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. This will leave an Iran funded Islamofascist chaos in Iraq which will inevitably create one more anti Israel terrorist state in the region. Nothing could be more detrimental to Israeli security than leaving Iraq before security is established.

These are the kinds of conflicting policy positions that will be picked apart by his opponents.

IMHO.

Islamofascist huh? wanna explain Basra? and if your gonna toss the fascist label around so carelessly, which do you think has more power and influence on the world these days, Islamic fascism or American fascism?

what makes you or anyone think that Iraq will ever be pro-Israel or pro-american if left on its own "secure" or not, Iraq's history would make that a pretty slim chance to begin with

imo Israel is responsible for many of its own problems, it can take care of itself

It's not like israel has ever tried making friends in the middle-east, so a democratic iraq (which the bush administration encourages) could very well be an anti-israel iraq.

That's a pretty good point.

I just assume with no security and all the Iranian insurgents in Iraq now it would be likely that it would devolve into a terrorist wasteland. Further destabalizing the region.

I estimate that a stable Iraq, even if slightly anti Israel is far less of a threat than a region in turmoil. And a democratic Iraq allied with the US would likely not be overtly anti Israel.

I'd be interested to see polls in Israel to see how they would feel about a cut and run policy by the US. I bet they are on my side on this.

There are a LOT of Jews in my family who like and respect the fact that Obama separated himself from Louis Farrakhan's past comments on Judaism (which have been labeled anti-semitic). There are other reasons than Israel that he appeals to many in the Jewish community.

Israel hasn't tried to make friends? They've signed several peace agreements with Arab countries. I don't think Israel needs to prove their willingness to seek peace and friendship. It's the holdout Arab states and the Palestinians that have something to prove.

Well, fighting them hasn't worked too well, i mean, we're beating them but that doesn't stop the hatred or the spread of the ideology? Maybe negotiating may help I mean, when all else fails...

I do believe Iran would not mind negotiating, but your president has put in certain unreasonable requests before he decides to come to the table. So, whose fault is it for the non-negotiating?
