2008 Presidential Candidates: McCain.
Party: Independent.
Abortion: Pro-life. Abortion is completely unacceptable unless it is the only way to prevent a woman from dying in childbirth.
Affirmative Action : Mostly against. I can understand the need for racial affirmative action in some countries, but America doesn't need it at this point in time.
Alternative Fuels: Switching to a renewable energy source would be preferable, but other options, such as drilling for oil in parts of the Alaskan wildlife refuge, should be considered.
Capital Punishment: Completely for. Death is the only acceptable punishment for some crimes we hear about today.
Censorship: As others have said, I'm for government censorship of exceptionally vulgar and/or violent things during the day on public channels.
Cuba: I don't really care right now. Cuba doesn't seem like a major issue to me.
Current Administration (Bush/Cheney): I'm not particularly fond of the current administration, but there have certainly been worse.
Current Congress: Sucks.
Education: I am completely against privatizing education. I'd like to see increased funding of low-quality public schools, but I think there needs to be more auditing to make sure the money is going where it should be. I also believe that some form of physical activity/exercise in school should be mandatory for all grade levels nationwide.
Electoral College: For. I'd also be in favor of restricting the right to vote to those who are at least somewhat knowledgeable of our government, the candidates, and the issues. It sounds unfair, I know, but stupidity has become an epidemic in this country.
Flag Burning: Against. Read the Constitution, guys, your freedom to express yourself in any way you see fit is not protected:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
If it was, public nudity would not be a criminal offense.
Foreign Policy: I believe that as the world's most powerful nation, we have a moral obligation to protect the interests of our allies and of neutral countries when those interests don't come in conflict with our own. Diplomacy is good, and I'd prefer talking to fighting whenever possible, but military action is often necessary.
Free Trade: Against, other than with key allies and developing nations. I believe it would be in our best interests to become as economically self-sufficient as possible, even if it requires tariffs, quotas, and other economic measures.
Gay Rights: I'm in favor of civil unions, I guess. I don't really see homosexuality as immoral... go figure.
Global Warming: I don't buy into any theory of anthropogenic global warming. It's all bullshit. Earth's temperatures and climate patterns are naturally cyclic, and any change we are currently experiencing (which has so far been negligible) is part of that natural pattern. I think Gore is a loser for fearmongering like he does, and have lost any respect I once had for the Nobel committee after they gave him the fucking peace prize. What a bunch of idiots.
Globalization: Economic? No. Cultural? Maybe to some extent, but people and countries should strive to retain their unique cultural identities. I don't like the idea of a single, huge "global culture." I appreciate our current amount of cultural diversity and would never want to see it compromised.
Gun Control: Should be kept to an absolute minimum.
Healthcare: I'd favor price caps and other regulations put in place by the government, but socialized health care is taking it way too far, IMO.
Illegal Immigration: Beef up border security by increasing the amount of armed military personnel there. No wall.
Marijuana Legalization: Against. If you need drugs to be happy, move to the Netherlands.
Media Bias: Is there, but it isn't as big of a deal as some people act like it is.
School Prayer: Depends. A "moment of silence" in the mornings should suffice for Christians and most others, and I wouldn't be opposed to "prayer time" breaks in schools with very large Muslim populations. Education itself shouldn't be compromised for the sake of religion, though.
Separation of Church and State: For. I'm not religious, and I don't want my government or anyone else telling me I must be.
Social Security: Don't know. It obviously needs to be trashed or reformed, but I'm not educated enough on the subject to propose any solutions.
Stem Cell Research: I'd rather we look for stem cells in sources other than human fetuses, but if they aren't available anywhere else, I wouldn't want to stand in the way of potentially beneficial research.
The Constitution: I have no problem with it. It may need to be updated/amended, but it's been pretty good for us so far.
United Nations: We should stay in it, but it really needs to improve its military strength. I think the whole deal with unarmed U.N. troops is bullshit, and not allowing armed troops to actually use their weapons brings idiocy to a whole new level. I never want to see another Rwanda.
War in Iraq: Not the best option, but we sure as hell can't leave now. We have to stay until Iraq is relatively stable, or it will all have been for nothing.
Welfare: A "safety net" is a good idea, but if you don't make an honest effort to find a job, no net for you.
Wiretapping: For, with a warrant. Unwarranted wiretapping is only okay if we do it to non-Americans.

Party: A smart one
Issues: Clean up the Government!!!
(After this is done then we can start working on other issues. All other issues
are secondary. You should never build a House on a bad foundation !!)
Some easy no-brainers:
Take the $10,000,000,000.00 per year in oil
subsidies and start developing a Hydrogen/electric
car industry.
The sooner we get Hydrogen & Electric cars as the standard in the U.S. the better
We’ll live!
1) Leaders of new technologies prosper followers don’t!
2) Pollution is bad! Hydrogen / Electr car don’t pollute.
3) The earth’s Oil is not unlimited.
4) We rely on others for oil. With Hydrogen others will rely on us. (If we are Leaders #1)
Also push solar and wind power, so America can become totally self-sufficient
and we will be creating US Jobs at the same time !!!

That kinda depends where we get the hydrogen an how we get it but I do think it would be a good idea if we can find a coast effective way to use solar an wind power to extract hydrogen from water but currently we are extracting much if not most hydrogen from fossil fuels . Without using solar or wind we are again using electricity from the power grid witch uses fossil fuels to produce the power
So it is not that easy to do ,we will to need to change every thing from the way we generate the electricity to extract the hydrogen to where we decide to get it from or it will not be coast effective or be much help to the environment

This is the "GIVE ME IT NOW" syndrome. Yes this technology is in it's
infancy (I think because Big Oil Co.'s don't want to loose money )
But as we invest most of these issues will be resolved. If you asked yourself
the same questions 2years ago you would say "It'll never work", but today
you can only say that it's not robust.
Do you think people in the 1920's told Ford, well if you can't get 30MPG,
have Air Bags, seatbelts, and ABS now using Cars is a bad idea?
That's why I said use the Billions of dollars from the oil subsidies to "DEVELOP"
this industry. The more money, time, energy, and mental activity given
to this matter the sooner it will become Better that Sliced Bread !

2008 Presidential Candidates: If I had to rank them I'd say 1. Obama; 2. Clinton; 3. Nader; 4. Libertarian candidate if applicable. 5. McCain if it were a choice between him and uhh.... a right-wing populist?
Party: Democrat (liberal economic, libertarian social)
Abortion: Pro-choice until quickening.
Affirmative Action: Wrong approach to the right problem. We need equality in public education, not affirmative action.
Alternative Fuels: Diverse and customized approach needed: More solar near the equator, more nuclear, more fuel cell, tidal energy, even utilize the ocean currents and jet stream if possible, more hydroelectric power, hybrid should be considered the minimum standard for manufacture within 10 years, ethanol/biofuel should not be emphasized, etc.
Capital Punishment: Never should be used, but criminals should be forced to work a lot in prison.
Censorship: The government should do no censorship of any kind.
Cuba: Lift the embargo immediately. It's hard to kill a regime without killing their people too.
Current Administration (Bush/Cheney): Should be charged with war crimes and imprisoned.
Current Congress: Lame because of the political system we have.
Education: Needs to be made a priority in public funding. Start by downsizing the military.
Electoral College: Abolish it.
Flag Burning: Symbolic speech should be protected when nobody is being harmed.
Foreign Policy: Halt aid to foreign countries, especially Isreal. That money should be spent on America or not taken in the first place. No more intervention in foreign conflicts.
Free Trade: For all non-weaponizeable goods, full and unrestricted. Otherwise mostly free.
Gay Rights: Equal rights are not special rights.
Global Warming: It probaby exists, I'm just not sure how much of an impact it would have. We're merely releasing what was locked into the Earth in the Carboniferous and other periods. Earth was much warmer then, and the worst that could happen is the sea level could rise and engulf New York... Solving our energy crisis will solve this one concurrently.
Globalization: No opinion. Couldn't be stopped without measures I'm opposed to.
Gun Control: Encourage gun ownership and responsible use. Felons should be allowed to have guns, but not concealed. Maybe this would encourage other citizens to have guns, which would in turn discourage crime.
Healthcare: National health insurance with government regulation but not government control of private delivery. This would improve access, could improve quality (if the overall government does as well as the VHA has lately), and would reduce costs.
Illegal Immigration: Anybody should be allowed to come here as long as they work or are supported by somebody who does, and pay taxes.
Marijuana Legalization: Legalize and regulate all drugs, especially marijuana.
Media Bias: Bias is hard to avoid, but it'd be nice if Fox didn't call itself "Fair and Balanced" while they are clearly conservative. The liberal bias of other stations is mild compared to Fox's conservative bias.
My problem isn't bias so much as covering things that aren't relevant. I don't give a shit about Spears or what famous celebrity did what. Let the tabloids cover that. The news should cover things that are newsworthy. BBC is much better than anything from American television.
School Prayer: No need to disallow it, but there needs to be no time allocated for it either.
Separation of Church and State: Yes.
Social Security: Undecided.
Stem Cell Research: Encourage.
The Constitution: Not perfect, but better than what most idiots in the government want.
United Nations: Should provide the foundation for a global state with limited powers and a world constitution. America's role should be lower than it is now, in comparison to other nations that is. Veto power should be able to be overriden by a higher percentage vote.
War in Iraq: Give them 2 months warning and then leave. We never should have gone there, and we should never go back no matter what happens.
Welfare: Is okay for the poor and unemployed as long as there are built in motivations for people to get off of it as soon as possible. Food stamps excepted. Stop all corporate welfare.
Wiretapping: No warrant, no search.

Platform
2008 Presidential Candidates: Barak Obama
Party: Independent (Switched to Dem to vote in primaries)
Abortion: I'm pro-choice.
Affirmative Action: If you are the best at what you do is this even an issue?
Alternative Fuels: The Bio fuel Industry appears to be as corrupt as oil. Nuclear power MUST be revisited.
Capital Punishment: BOOO!
Censorship: Nothing less then 100% freedom of speech is acceptable.
Cuba: The embargo is antiquated and has done nothing to serve US interests since the 1980's. End it immediately. Keeping it gives us the appearance of that playground loser who takes his toys home when he doesnt get his way.
Current Administration (Bush/Cheney): Possibly criminals. Their association with the oil industry and private military contractors go beyond unethical and has resulted in the raping of the US economy.
Current Congress: We need more Dems before serious any serious change.
Education: Decriminalize drugs and spend more money on schools.
Electoral College: The EC is a tool of the political elite to keep the people of the United States from expressing their will.
Flag Burning: Freedom of Expression is protected under the 1st amendment
Foreign Policy: Diplomacy>Sanctions and embargoes>war only with UN and Congressional approval.
Free Trade: As long as it goes BOTH ways.
Gay Rights: Get a life and get out of your neighbors bedroom.
Global Warming: Grow up! To think that 5billion carbon emitting creatures aren't having an effect is sheer folly. Unfortunately our tendency to exaggerate to get people to care enables the shills for the oil industry to appear credible while blowing smoke up our @sses.
Globalization: As long as free trade is practiced the world will continue in this direction. If you are talking NWO I think I was abducted by aliens.
Gun Control: Antiquated. HANDgun control is a must. You can have your guns just take away the concealable people killers.
Health care: Either socialise it or reform the insurance industries they are no better then mafia shakedown men.
Illegal Immigration: As long as we have jobs Americans are unwilling to do we will not be able to stop it. Demand ALWAYS comes before supply.
Marijuana Legalization: Decriminalize.
Media Bias: It's bullshit. Sure, some stations like fox have a conservative bias, while others have a liberal bias, there is ample supply of news sources available to us here in America. Media bias is no excuse to be "uninformed."
School Prayer: If the school is public the constitution forbids it. See below
Separation of Church and State: This was implemented to protect the church from being used as a puppet for political leaders. Keep the two entities separate.
Social Security: Why should I pay into something that I'll most likely never reep the benefits of. Either reform this derelict from the New Deal or get rid of it and save/invest your money the old fashioned way.
Stem Cell Research: All for it as long as we're not destroying life.
The Constitution: Most important political document in the West. It is also the supreme law of the land and any laws made that oppose the constitution (parts of the Patriot Act) need to be nullified.
United Nations: Our ignoring of the will of the world and intervention in other countries without permission is why 9/11 happened.
War in Iraq: Based on a lie. Get out. At least it made the business friends of the admin multi trillionairs.
Welfare: Yea, lets be the ONLY modern first world country to not have welfare.
Wiretapping: Not without a judicial warrant.

2008 Presidential Candidates: Alan Keyes
Party: Libertarian
Abortion: Personally, I'm against abortion, but the government should not be involved, so I'm politically pro-choice.
Affirmative Action: No no no.
Alternative Fuels: This is a job for the private sector.
Capital Punishment: Too many death row inmates are being exonerated for this to be a viable means of punishment.
Censorship: No censorship.
Cuba: How can we justify trading with China and not Cuba?
Current Administration (Bush/Cheney): I can't believe they weren't tried as war criminals. Then again, I feel bad for them, being pretty much hated and all.
Current Congress: Too much red tape, too many bureaucracies to deal with to be effective in the slightest way.
Education: Abolish the useless Dept. of Education, start the voucher program.
Electoral College: There are few instances when the electoral college has failed us, and I believe it has the potential to be very effective.
Flag Burning: Covered by the First Amendment, though I think it generally is not very cool.
Foreign Policy: For now, we need a hands off approach to the world. Too many problems at home.
Free Trade: FINE, if we have to, but in need of some serious reform
Gay Rights: Government has no right to be involved in your personal life.
Global Warming: I'll admit that we need to work on our own pollution that's ripping a hole in the ozone layer, but global warming goes back to the time of the Egyptians. Do the research, it's true!
Globalization: No no no, we are a sovereign nation and I don't want foreigners having any say in how our country is run.
Gun Control: Government has no say, according to the Constitution. You want a gun, you can buy a gun. People that hurt others with guns go to jail.
Health care: Privatize it, bring competition back to hospitals and doctors.
Illegal Immigration: Deport all ILLEGAL immigrants. Put legal immigrants on a path to citizenship.
Marijuana Legalization: Decriminalize it. It's less dangerous than alcohol and the war on drugs is just not working.
Media Bias: Any source of information anywhere is going to be biased. It's your personal responsibility to do the research and find out for yourself.
School Prayer: People can pray in school if they want to, but they aren't forced to.
Separation of Church and State: Definitely, but make sure that Separation of Church and State doesn't mean, get rid of religion in politics. it was meant to stop the State from controlling the Church, not to make sure we are an atheistic nation.
Social Security: Privatize.
Stem Cell Research: There are many forms of stem cell research that don't involve fetuses, let's stick with those for now.
The Constitution: Follow it, it is our country's code.
United Nations: Useless to us.
War in Iraq: Get out while we still can, before someone tries to send us to Iran or Pakistan or Syria.
Welfare: Don't cripple the poor by teaching them that the government will always be there to make sure they don't need a job. Get off your lazy ass and help someone personally.
Wiretapping: Where in the Constitution does it say the government can get involved with me in my personal life?

As I am new here, this will help serve as an introduction for myself...
2008 Presidential Candidates: Barack Obama.
Party: Democratic
Abortion: Pro-choice. Legalize it during the at least in the first trimester, allow for it in exceptional cases (health threat, rape) after that
Affirmative Action: Affirmative Action has honorable intentions, though may need some reform/scaling back. A bigger focus on income would be preferable.
Alternative Fuels: A must; we need massive increases in investment in alternative fuels. Tax incentives and other measures should be targeted at the development of such fuels. I'm also open to the possibility of expanding nuclear power, though such expansion should be highly regulated for purposes of safety.
Capital Punishment: I'm not fundamentally opposed, at least for exceptional cases (child murder, serial murder). Application should be equal across states and much more rigorous proof should be required; DNA testing a must.
Censorship: No censorship of criticism of the government. The FCC is alright in principle, but has severely overstepped proper boundaries in recent years and should be far more limited. Enforcement of ensuring that only adults can access 'adult material' on the internet is proper.
Cuba: The Embargo is a complete failure. We trade with other countries with worse human rights records. Time to eliminate it entirely.
Current Administration (Bush/Cheney): Worst administration of the modern era, possibly the worst administration ever.
Current Congress: This Congress has been largely ineffective, though this is partially attributable to the fact that the opposite party has control of the presidency and that the majority party only has a very narrow majority. I hope for a greater Democratic majority in the future. Also, some of the issues Congress has chosen to focus on (steroids comes to mind) is ridiculous and not the proper role of government.
Education: Complete equity in education should be our goal. To that end we should outlaw private education/home-schooling at primary and secondary levels and fully federalize funding at these levels so that all schools are funded equally according to the number of students (though certainly room will need to be made for minor exceptions). As for higher education, the government should offer many large merit-based grants and should offer far more subsidized loans. The ability to attend public universities should be guaranteed as long as minimum academic requirements are met.
Electoral College: One person, one vote. Eliminate the electoral college and use the popular vote.
Flag Burning: It's a political statement, the most sacred type of 'free speech.' Let it be.
Foreign Policy: More multi-lateralism, more diplomacy. More money for international aid. Pull out of Iraq and dedicate and set up a volunteer force within the militaries jurisdiction of dedicated US peacekeepers to be used for UN peacekeeping missions.
Free Trade: Free trade is a necessity in todays world and is important to bettering the lives of individuals at the global level. Support free trade taking into account 'fair trade' principles and regulating trade with businesses which engage in human rights violations.
Gay Rights: Gay marriage should be legalized, discrimination against gays in housing, employment, education, etc. should be fully outlawed
Global Warming: The defining problem of the 21st century, massive government efforts need to be aimed at reducing out national footprint. Increase regulation of pollution, raise CAFE standards, seek binding international agreements to fight the problem. Promote and implement a cap-and-trade system, tax pollution.
Globalization: Globalization is here whether we like it or not. The US is fully integrated into the world economy. We need to maintain a positive influence as one of the main sources of globalization; where we see the process having severe negative influences in the world, we need to make efforts to offer assistance to reverse the influences. We need to do as much as possible to ensure that our impact on the globe is as positive as possible.
Gun Control: While the 2nd amendment protects our rights to own and operate guns, this doesn't mean we can't regulate them. A full background check and licensing system should be required; all records of purchases and gun registration should be kept in a single electronic database.
Healthcare: Full universal healthcare. I believe its a moral duty to ensure that individuals receive the healthcare necessary to stay healthy. It is morally disgusting that individuals who are poor and can either not afford any or can afford only minimal insurance are therefore unable to receive decent healthcare for treatable illnesses or do so at tremendous financial cost to themselves and their families.
Illegal Immigration: I generally support amnesty for those who are here and have been here for some time; offer a path to citizenship that ensures that they learn English and learn about US history and culture within a reasonable amount of time. As for future immigration, we must secure our borders better but at the same time we should increase the number of immigrants we allow annually by a significant degree.
Marijuana Legalization: Legalize it, regulate it and tax it. It's no worse than alcohol; adults should be allowed to make their own choices with it and use it in the privacy of their own homes.
Media Bias: Many of the current major media outlets leave much to be desired. Fox is rather biased, in my opinion, while CNN and the rest often play to the lowest common denominator. However, this is none of the governments business. Make sure that media outlets don't get further monopolized but otherwise let them be. The internet is helping to ensure that there are better and more sources of news.
School Prayer: There is no place in public schools for organized prayer. Do it on your own time, do it at lunch, but not in the classroom.
Separation of Church and State: Maintain (or implement...) full separation. This means no assistance to any religious organization in any way. No posting of the ten commandments on government property. And while perhaps a rather petty issue, I also support removing 'In God We Trust' from our money.
Social Security: It's a necessary program; find a way to fund it properly. Increase taxes if needed; raise the estate tax, capital gains, taxes on the wealthiest members of society.
Stem Cell Research: No problem with it at all, no problem with government investment being used for it either.
The Constitution: A lot of the policies implemented under the Bush Administration threaten our constitutional rights; get rid of them. No torture, no curtailing free speech, no suspending habeas corpus, no calling US citizens 'enemy combatants' as an excuse.
United Nations: The UN is a vital institution for international relations. The US needs to do more to support it; we must pay our dues on time and promote expansion of funding and operations of many of its branches (UNDP, UNEP, UNICEF). Also, as mentioned earlier, I think we should create a volunteer branch within the military dedicated to being used for UN peacekeeping operations. I do support some UN reform; the Security Council needs more members and the veto needs changed. India, Brazil and South Africa are all noteworthy contenders for permanent seats.
War in Iraq: For such an important issue, I'm torn. It was a huge mistake to go in. We have caused enormous pain and suffering and have given people in the Middle East more reasons to hate us. I support scaled withdraw with the realization that we'll likely need to maintain some presence for a long time. A new president may allow us to engage the UN for more international support to help prevent genocide once we pull out.
Welfare: The country's with the highest standards of living in the world are full welfare states. I support significant reform and expansion of the welfare system. More job training and retraining programs, unemployment benefits, income supplements for those below the poverty line, better and more public housing, food stamps (especially for families with children), etc. I also support the implementation of a much more significant progressive taxation scheme.
Wiretapping: As the original poster said, 'not without a warrant.'

2008 Presidential Candidates: John McCain with Condi as VP
Party: Friday and Saturday nights only, I am getting old. (Republican)
Abortion: Roe –vs.- Wade was bad law. Return to states as an issue.
Affirmative Action: Should be eliminated. (agree w/ W.E.B.)
Alternative Fuels: Allow the market to decide. Market forces are already forcing more and more alternates. Discourage using food as fuel.
Capital Punishment: Would like to see it used under very high standards of witnesses and DNA proof of guilt. (agree w/ W.E.B)
Censorship: No censorship of government criticism. Pro-terrorism messages should be censored. No bare breasts or private areas on TV. (agree w/ W.E.B.)
Cuba: Lift the embargo before Castro dies.
Current Administration (Bush/Cheney): At one time I was very proud of Bush and Cheney. They handled the downed spy plane and “hostage” issue in China well. They handled taxes well and made it sound like they were going to be strong conservatives. Since a year after the Iraq stage of the war started, I have yet to be proud again.
Current Congress: Typical.
Education: State and local issues should be addressed more. End forced bussing. More accountability for going over budget. Fewer social issues, more reading writing and arithmetic. Less self esteem B.S.
Electoral College: It's a good system to ensure all states are treated fairly. (agree w/ caltex)
Flag Burning: As a part of a planned public demonstration or private rebellion, keep it legal. If you run out onto the field of a baseball game and try to burn the flag, make it legal for the players to kick your ass.
Foreign Policy: Recall all troops overseas that are not deployed in hazardous duty stations. (Iraq and Afghanistan and any troops fighting WOT in other countries) Any country that wants us back has to pass a public vote for us to come back. Re-evaluate all current policies and see if the unintended consequences are worth the intended ones.
Free Trade: Free trade plus. End all tariffs.
Gay Rights: Equal rights, not special ones. Marriage is a legal contract between 2 consenting adults. There is no legal perspective to take to disallow a gay couple from marrying.
Global Warming: I believe it is natural along with global cooling. Global temperatures being static, is abnormal. I do believe in not polluting.
Globalization: The only way to survive.
Gun Control: Aiming is important. Stop breathing while squeezing the trigger.
Healthcare: Pro-education. Prevention is very important. Those that are pro-universal healthcare should go in together on a universal healthcare insurance policy.
Illegal Immigration: Make it easier to get in legally, harder to get in illegally. Increase the amount of farm labor visas with serious consequences for those that overstay. Charge the government of the illegal alien for any criminal damages paid for by the state. Make it too expensive for the foreign country to be complacent.
Marijuana Legalization: We have enough vices, thank-you.
Media Bias: As long as humans run the media, there will be bias.
School Prayer: Should not be encouraged or discouraged by any school official.
Separation of Church and State: No established religion, no religious test for elected or appointed officials, the Federal government can not pass any law for or against anything to do with religion. States rights issue.
Social Security: (agreed) needs to be eventually phased out or privatized.
Stem Cell Research: Allow private funding to support it, federal funding where there is no controversy.
The Constitution: A historical document that if read properly already covers any issue that has come up. Does not need to be changed, just followed.
United Nations: A spineless group of diplomats. Should be Swiss based.
War in Iraq: Win the war. Pull out of the cities, surround the county and ensure no one but Iraqi’s get in. After stability, come home. No base in Iraq.
Welfare: Help the helpless, train the trainable, and discourage the malingerers.
Wiretapping: Should be done using an expedited judicial process for terrorism related issues. Lower benchmarks for people suspected of terrorism and non-US citizens. (agree w/ W.E.B.)
