Plus, many crises are supported by a difference in foreign power within regions. Like China supporting Sudan despite the genocides and it dismantles all Security Council proposals towards peace for that purpose.
Shouldn't be surprised though, it's not the first time the CCP does something like that; look at Cambodia (eventhough the genocide also targetted Chinese people!).

There's nothing wrong with talking to Mao. Diplomacy is the driving force behind peace. Mao was a pretty horrible leader in all aspects, so even the more reasons to have discussions with him and try to contain his horrible policies.
