2008 Presidential Candidates: Obama Obama Obama... however anyone over the Republican candidate. I will fully support Hillary Clinton should she receive the nomination.
Party: Democratic
Abortion: I do not endorse abortion as a form of birth control. It should not be the only choice and it should not be the first choice. However, it is a violation of civil liberties to infringe on a woman's right to choose. I am fully pro-choice.
Affirmative Action: I do not see it as the path to achieving full equality. If we are creating it by trying to legislate employers to choose, we are insulting the progress of our society, and the skills of minorities. It says we don't believe in their skills enough to grant them an equal chance. Affirmative action does not create equal rights for ANYONE. We need to work toward a greater, broader solution of acceptance by legislating individual groups and issues.
Alternative Fuels: Legislative against the use of excess oil. Use alternative fuels as a prong of foreign policy... less reliance on outside sources. We need to create renewable and green resources. Oil will not last forever!
Capital Punishment: No death penalty in any situation, any time, for any person. It goes against the principle of democracy, and it gives the criminal what they are being punished for. Hypocritical much?
Censorship: No. Freedom of the press. Freedom of speech. The government does not have the right to infringe on media, or any form of artistic expression. Obviously dangerous or inappropriate images should not be on the television for minors to see, but you can't initiate a blank bill on censorship. It has dangerous repercussions.
Cuba: First, we have to change the way Cuba is viewed. It cannot be seen as the enemy anymore. It cannot be seen as a threat to security. We need to initiate a relationship with Cuba if we are going to hope for democracy there. Raul is better than Fidel. Democracy is slowly coming. It is time to rebuild that link. A mutual trust needs to be worked on.
Current Administration (Bush/Cheney): A pair of power hungry, undemocratic leaders. They have committed war crimes, and I would say their involvement in 911 is more than meets the eye. Good riddance.
Current Congress: Look, the congress doesn't have much of a chance under Bush but Pelosi has not done a fantastic job. New President, new house speaker, new majority senate leader... build on both democratic majorities and then we'll see what it is like.
Education: Scrap No Child Left Behind. Scrap plans for school vouchers. Increase pay for teachers. Realize this is a major national issue.
Electoral College: Good and bad. A simple popular vote count will not work; we'll end up with huge numbers of viable third parties. Keep it, but reform it.
Flag Burning: Not necessarily unpatriotic. It is a freedom of expression and opposition right.
Foreign Policy: War should be the last option. The first priorities should be human rights abuses abroad (i.e. Darfur crisis). Diplomacy is the best option. President shoud lead a summit with foreign leaders. TALK!
Free Trade: Fair trade.
Gay Rights: Homosexuals are no different from anyone else. They are human beings and they have rights. Complete marriage rights with exactly the same rights with heterosexuals.
Global Warming: 1) It's here. It's real 2) Kyoto! 3) Alternative Fuels 4) Eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by a certain year.
Gun Control: 2nd ammendment was instituted after the revolution when americans were afraid that britain would come back and take over. It's out of date and gun rights is not a right.
Healthcare: Eliminate insurance influence. Do not mandate. Subsidize and create a national healthcare system.
Illegal Immigration: Provide a path to citizenship for all immigrants.
Marijuana Legalization: No. It plays into an illegal activity. Not smart.
Media Bias: Media should not focus on one idea for more than a couple of days. Stop trying to divide! We're on the same team!!!!!
School Prayer: No. This is a private activity at home.
Separation of Church and State: Completely separate. They should not mix.
Stem Cell Research: I'm for it in all regards.
The Constitution: How about we follow it? OH! What a novel idea.
United Nations: It is one of the most important peacekeeping forces in the whole world. It is most definitely a league we need to protect and respect.
War in Iraq: I so admire the politicians who had the foresight and the guts to stand up against this war. This is one of the reasons I admire Obama so much. It is the judgment that we need. Troops should be withdrawn as quickly and as orderly as possible.
Welfare: Maintain it in some aspects. Reform it in others. As with all social programs, it has positives and negatives. The positives outweigh the negatives.
Wiretapping: No. North America is not home to autocracies.
