Though it is within ourselves to cope with extreme hardship through either reason or spirituality, one cannot reconcile the incongruity of relying on deity(es) as our only hope for humanity. Why? The well spring from which the "divine influence" is discovered and retrieved is poisoned by the passions of human interpretation.
In order to belay the fears of those who wish for the higher power, try not to rely on the all too passionate, human societal construct of religion, for it is at the mercy of the manipulative few.
Those who are judging god(s) for whatever reason, when it comes down to it, all one is really doing is giving legitimate discourse to a primitive cognitive/behavioral trait that has been at the mercy of scared, manipulative individuals that sought to control an unpredictable mob of human beings, so as not to be killed or banished by those they have wronged in the community.
For those whose "IQ" is higher than 120, yes it is silly to name something for which we have no mental capacity of ever understanding. To try and attribute anthropocentric traits to something as abstract as what or whom created our existence is arrogant and full of hubris, such is the tendency for all scared human beings. We can blame Plato for setting us on the path to monotheism, but their were religions in existence prior to Plato. The saving point for Plato was he chronicled Socrates, who had the humility not to delve into messing with human spirituality. Socrates managed to give us a valuable piece of wisdom that no one can ever possibly be able to have all the wisdom in the world, let alone any sizable group. We can accept that spirituality is a great way to cope with frustration and stress caused by other panicky, suicidal beings.
What should be said is that questioning or judging the group understanding of the common deity(es) construct is healthy, but very risky, since there are those who would rather hold onto the power derived from a static, stable construct and can use it to cow the population. Those who have large popular power tend to eliminate dissenting voices. History, though viewed through propaganda lens, does allow enough truthful lessons to let us know that murder to silence opposition does occur.
