The Asians are incredibly smart.
Emptypepsi was right on, but let me explain the problem with this particular stereotyupe: Saying that Asians are naturally intelligent devalues those who work hard to get where they are. Also, if one were an Asian and not especially smart, it would feel doubly shameful. I do think many Asian cultures, especially South Koreans and Japanese, value education very highly. America’s secondary education is sub-optimal, but they come here for our universities which are competitive in the world economy.

With that being said, you are correct- education is a national security issue and believe me when I say that thousands of people at all levels of education take that very seriously. This is not something that will be fixed overnight. Many people say dump it and start over. Right, I have ocean front property for sale in North Dakota, too. What are you going to replace it with? Private school? Vouchers? Privatize education? Do the research, don't read 2 articles from the Philadelphia Inquirer that says the Edison Schools are wonderful. Vouchers in Milwaukee work to a certain extent. What they don't tell you to often are the other problems that are not being addressed.
Mostly it’s a problem of people being selfish and not prioritizing correctly. Education needs to be financed better by State and/or Federal money. The most powerful voting bloc, represented by the likes of the AARP, no longer have kids in the school system. As they are also being squeezed by the healthcare crisis, and are being scared to death by fear mongering leaders, they don’t see education as a priority. For the future of America, though, education needs to be priority number one.
