I find it arrogant to think that humans will never become extinct. We are just one of many species that has inhabited this planet. Who knows, maybe alligators, sharks and cockroaches shall inherit the earth as they have been here for a long time.
I do think it is possible that humans will never become extinct. Arrogant or not, humans are obviously very different from any other species that has inhabited Earth. To a much greater extent than other species, we are not forced to adapt to the environment, we adapt the environment to us.

Given the choices between humans never going extinct, humans going extinct, and humans eventually becoming something that we would not consider fully human, I'd say the last possibility is the most likely.
