We can't judge people by their friends and family. Even Jesus hung out with sinners, but that doesn't mean he was a bad guy. Furthermore, while it seems that Wright got carried away, there is a grain of truth in much of what he says. Most Americans are too busy waving their flags to have any idea how many mistakes their government has made.

I'm sure she has seen her fair share of American hypocrisy. America has the most social stratification of industrialized nations, and actually has the highest per capita incarcerated population in the world. African Americans disproportionately fall in the lower economic classes despite how hard many of them work. They are also incarcerated disproportionately more. It does not surprise me that she has felt little patriotism until recently.
