The days of large set piece big battlefield type conflicts has passed, probably for good, no other nations of any consequence have even really started preparing for that type of conflict nor do they show any interest in doing so, yet the US continues on on that assumption.......leaving itself ill-equipped to fight the battles in will inevitably find itself in given the standard foreign policy mantra its been pursuing for decades. Nuclear weapons pretty much nullify invasions and coercive threats. Insurgencies are another issue and present the typical scenario the US will find itself in, but it ignored the lessons of Vietnam and failed to act accordingly after the USSR fell apart. Biggest, baddest, toughest, most advanced, but also almost worthless in today's world. It's easy prey to asymmetrical warfare and unable to deal with insurgencies while still clinging to our so called standards for what is considered ok on the battlefield. Just another thing on the list of the US's world record breaking misallocation of resources.
