I don`t think that it is defiant at all to claim that the universe has always existed (even though I would not claim that it did either because I don`t know) or that it is against the laws of physics since such laws state that matter and energy cannot be created nor destroyed. I do not however ascribe to the belief that a deity created it either as there is no evidence for this, and the laws of physics say it is impossible, since nothing can be created or destroyed.
