it really is a long time ago, but the main lesson out of it was how we became wealthy mostly on the extortion of natives and created one of the first joint stock companies, the VOC (east-india trading company). and how we lost it to the japanese in ww2 and didnt let go of the last of the islands untill the US forced us to.
