That is all well and good, and I applaud Oprah for her deeds. However, the point that needs to be addressed and answered by the black community is what they have done to help themselves. The community will never address this and admit as a whole that they have failed themselves, I, a white woman, have not done anything to hold back the black community, and neither has society at large. It is an age old dirge, that will not end. What really messes with my mind is the expectation of "respect". Respect for what? Achievements that could have been made, but weren't? Respect for the color of skin? Respect is earned, not a God given right.
