Osama bin Laden himself lived in Sudan for a number of years, and AQs second in charge, Al-Zawahiri is from Egypt (as are many of his followers from Egypt's Islamic Jihad). On top of that, Africa is long over-due some serious attention; staying out of the troubled countries of Africa hasn't exactly made them any better, has it?

Special Operations is also setting up a command in theater, which will probably be co-located with USAFRICOM in Stuttgart, Germany. This will bring not only HVT hunters and quick strike capabilities to the continent, but PSYOPS and Civil Affairs assistance as well, which will make a significant impact on the stability and welfare of the region in the long run.
