Some people believe that the US can somehow magically bring the Iraqis together to peacefully work toward a politicial solution by just hanging around a little longer, while IMO that is fallacy.
Kofi Annan himself stated that the invasion of Iraq "was not in conformity with the U.N. charter. From our point of view, from the charter point of view, it was illegal." which should be a clear indication that the US gives a shit about international law which includs the Geneva convention, which is only exacerbated by obvious affronts to it such as Guantanamo.
