IS this a joke?
38 percent of americans identify themselves as independants (gallup) that is more than republicans (28%) and democrats (34%)
Despite this, independant canidates have not pulled a single electoral vote since 1968.
How many states was Nader NOT allowed to run in again? In the majority of US states (31), in order for a third party to even get on the ballot they have to collect tens of thousands of signatures. Read the McCain Feinglod incombent protection law (campaign finance reform) then come back and tell us that third parties are not being hamstrung.
Pay attention to redistricting (I know it is boring). Democrats and republicans squabble about exactly how districts should be done. The one thing that is apparently NOT in dispute is the fact that independant minded districts WILL BE broken up. In the last 10 years in the states thathave been redistricted, there has not been one single district that went independant in preceding 5 years that did not get broken up.
While the democrats and republicans may squabble about other things, the one thing they seem to be able to agree on and ACT on is that third parites are BAD and need to be cut out of the action at all costs.
