What is this all about?!
First of all I want to say my parents lived in South Africa in the '80s...
Okay they had a good life, a large house,...they even got payed by the the regime to come to South Africa!
But that's doesn't mean my mother or father, or every white South African was a supporter of Apartheid...
From scince I can remember my parents had a great admiration for the ANC...and I'm sure when Mandela will die my mother will be depressed and very sad...
I think it's ridiculous to say thay all whites must be punished or must leave the country...
And if I may go broader...my grandparents were colonials in D.R of Congo,...I'm not discussing the fact that blacks were suppressed by whites, but that doesn't mean every white was bashing blacks...
My grandparents, together with my father and uncle, were living there in peace, sure they had black servants but they weren't slaves...they got well paid and they (and their wives and childeren) were a part of our family...
What has happended is very sad indeed, but that's all in the past now...
South Africa is one big multicultural experiment and you can't expect that the effects of almost a century of Apartheid will be cleared up in 10 or 20 years...
It's a new kind of society, they don't call it for nothing the 'rainbow nation'.
I have to say it's a dream of mine to visit South Africa as soon as possible, I'm not blind for the problems there but I think we can overcome then, in one way I'm European but in some way I feel strongly connected with South Africa (my brother was born there, and I was conceived there

)
I know
Afrikaans is seen as the
Apartheid-language...but I really want to learn it, because it an intresting evolution of the Dutch language...
