The truth be known the US spends 3-times as much on defense than any other group of nations (the combined EU) and could cut military spending by 2/3rds and still have the strongest military in the world.

I believe that the US has been developing its next generation nuclear weapons over the last decade as well. Of course neither the US or Russia really needs more nuclear weapons albeit the ones we have are getting old.
